Tips and tricks to help you in Last Epoch
After playing the game for quite some time, we have jotted down some stuff we wish we had known earlier. These tips will help guide you through the beginning of the game and beyond. Whether you are new to the game or are just starting a new character and want a quick refresher, we got you covered.
All classes are great
There is a small group of main classes to choose from in Last Epoch such as the Sentinel, Mage, Rogue, and more. Each of these classes has three masteries to choose from that give you even more customization. While every game has its “meta” builds, there is a lot more freedom in Last Epoch. Choose whichever class speaks to you because they are all good. We tested out a few of them and all of them feel very equal and can be made to be good with the right gear. This developer didn’t destroy the druid like Blizzard did.
Your mastery is permanent so choose wisely
Speaking of classes, when you reach the end of Chapter 2, you will get your mastery. This is the time to stress because the choice you make here is permanent. In a game where you can respec at any time it feels like it comes out of nowhere. We messed up the first time around and quickly ran through with a second character to try out a different mastery. Choose wisely and get to know the class a bit ahead of time, this will help you when that fateful choice comes.
Don’t stress if you choose the wrong passives
Now that the stressful part is out of the way, you can rest easy knowing that you can respec your character at any time. While your mastery is permanent, your skill upgrades and passives are not. You can go to town at any point and reset your passives. This will cost you some gold but it will be worth it to get your build down.
Test out everything your class has to offer
Testing never hurt anyone. Be sure to test out every skill that you have access to. Each class gets over 100 skill upgrades and it can be a lot to keep track of. Luckily, you can try out any of these skills and passives and respec whenever you want. Test out everything you can before sticking to a build.
Points in Masteries you didn’t choose
As a bonus, you can put points into the passives of masteries you didn’t choose. For instance, we chose the Falconer Mastery for the Rogue. We were also able to put some points in the Marksman mastery to increase our box damage and create a stronger build.
Get crafting down early
Crafting can be confusing in Last Epoch and it is something that we avoided early on because we didn’t want to deal with it. Thinking back, we wish we had given crafting more of a chance earlier in the game. Using the crafting system, you can edit any item that has forging potential. This allows you to place affixes on your gear to enhance and give it special bonuses. This is much more useful than waiting for the right weapon or armor piece to drop.
Just because it’s shiny doesn’t mean it’s better
Last Epoch will be throwing a lot of gear at you fast. Almost every enemy that you kill will drop some sort of item for you. This means that you will have no shortage of weapons and armor to choose from. Keep in mind that rarities don’t matter too much right away. While yes, a unique item will tend to have more bonuses than an uncommon or even a rare item, that doesn’t mean it is better. We sat on a unique item for a long time thinking it was better when it wasn’t.
Speed helps a lot
If you are trying to quickly get through the early hours of the game, the best way to do it is by raising your speed. The faster your character moves, the quicker you can get from Point A to Point B. Luckily, a lot of classes benefit from speed, especially the Rogue. Speedrunning your way through the intro areas will help you get to the more difficult sections quicker and also help you level up faster.
