Do you need a Last Epoch crafting guide? You can make your experience easier by learning how to craft early on and it is necessary when you reach the endgame. Luckily, the crafting system in Last Epoch is easy to learn but can be difficult to master.

If you are learning the basics of Last Epoch, you may want to know how many chapters are in the game. You might also want to know if you should take the alternate leveling path in Last Epoch. There’s plenty to break down when it comes to mechanics in the game. Here is your Last Epoch crafting guide so you can start getting stronger gear.

How to craft in Last Epoch

To start your crafting journey, start by opening the forge using the F key. Once this is open, select the piece of gear you want to work with by dragging it into the gear slot or pressing Shift + RMB. This will place the item in the gear slot. After this, you have a few options to choose from:

  • Upgrade an affix – press the up arrow that is next to an affix to upgrade it up to tier 5.
  • Add a glyph – press the central button that looks like a scroll below the gear slot.
  • Add a rune – press the slot that looks like a tile next to the large central plus sign slot.
  • Add an affix shard – press any of the plus signs that appear to attack an affix if you have one.

After you select what you wish to add to the piece of gear, the button at the bottom of the menu will highlight purple and you can add the modifier item.

What is forging potential in Last Epoch?

You have probably seen multiple pieces of gear that state they have “forging potential.” This is preceded by a number. In the case of our item, it has 13 forging potential. This number represents how much crafting can be done to it. When this number reaches zero, you will no longer be able to edit it.

Almost every action you perform costs forging potential. For instance, upgrading an item could cost between 1 and 13 forging potential. In the case of our item, this would bring the potential to zero if it ends up costing 13. If you get a critical success with the forging, the cost of this will be zero. You can also mitigate the cost by using a Glyph of Hope which gives you a 25% chance of the craft costing zero forging potential.

You can also craft legendary gear using this method but crafting legendary items requires gear with legendary potential. Only unique gear can have legendary potential. You will also need exalted gear to craft legendary items.

No set potential

No items in Last Epoch have a set forging potential. Because of this, you can have the same item drop with vastly different forging potentials. Forging potential is determined by factors like what level the area is that the item dropped and the rarity of the item.

How to get crafting materials in Last Epoch

There are three types of crafting materials; shards, glyphs, and runes. Each of these offers different effects with shards being the most basic of the materials.

  • Shards: These are affixes that you put on your gear. Shards can be used to craft new affixes or upgrade existing ones. Shards can only be used to upgrade an existing affix with a corresponding stat.
  • Glyphs: There are five glyphs in the game that can directly affect affixes. These are:
    • Glyph of Despair – Has a chance to seal an affix instead of upgrading it. The sealed affix is moved to its own slot, leaving its old slot open for you to add a new affix.
    • Glyph of Chaos – Modifies the outcome of a craft when upgrading an affix. Randomly changes the upgraded affix to a different one that can spawn on that item type. It cannot change a prefix into a suffix or vice versa.
    • Glyph of Order – Modifies the outcome of a craft when upgrading an affix. Prevents the roll of an affix within its range changing when it is upgraded.
    • Glyph of Hope – Modifies the outcome of a craft, granting it a 25% chance to have no forging potential cost.
    • Glyph of Insight – Grants the affix a chance to be converted into an experimental affix.
  • Runes: Runes are similar to Glyphs and directly affect affixes on an item. They have powers such as destroying an item and turning the affixes into shards of the same type.

You can gather these crafting materials by defeating enemies and purchasing them from vendors. Be on the lookout for these items as you progress through the game.

That is everything you need to know about crafting. While there are some confusing elements to the system in the game, you will get a hang of it with time. Be sure to also check out what the max level is in Last Epoch. You can also check out whether Last Epoch has microtransactions or not.
