With creatures, evil wizards, and goblins intent on spoiling your time at the famed wizarding school in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need any advantage you can to stay alive. Learning how to pull off a dodge is among the most important lessons in Hogwarts Legacy, as a well-executed dodge can be the difference between winning a tough fight and getting all too accustomed to seeing the death screen.

Though the game walks new players through the basic dodge mechanic in Hogwarts Legacy, a refresher never goes amiss, especially if the timing is causing your trouble. We’ve pieced together this guide explaining how to dodge in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to Dodge in Hogwarts Legacy

Here’s how to dodge in Hogwarts Legacy for each platform:

• PS5: Point the right thumbstick in the direction you want to dodge and tap the Circle button. If the thumbstick is centered, your character automatically dodges forward.
• Xbox: Point the right thumbstick in the direction you want to dodge and tap the B button. If the thumbstick is centered, your character automatically dodges forward.
• PC: Tap the Ctrl key on your keyboard to dodge.

If the dodge key doesn’t quite work for you on PC, remember that you can always change the key bind in the Settings menu of the Field Guide.

Dodge Tips

Now you know how to dodge in Hogwarts Legacy, here are a few tips that have helped us in our adventures:

• Attack Indicator – Whenever an attack is about to hit you, you’ll see a circular symbol above your character. The indicator is a sign to dodge, so as soon as it appears, tap the dodge button. If the indicator is yellow, the attack is blockable using Stupify. Red means the attack will damage you even if you block with Stupify.
• Invest in the Swift Talent – We highly recommend investing a Talent Point in the Swift ability. By holding down dodge, your character will initiate a dodge, then vanish and reappear nearby. During the duration of the short teleport, your character is invulnerable. Swift makes getting out of sticky situations much easier, notably when several enemies converge on you. It creates distance quickly and keeps you safe from attacks.
