Wondering how to use emotes properly in Helldivers 2? Emotes are a fantastic way to communicate, along with pings, if you don’t have a mic. They can quickly show if you agree with an order from a teammate, or can be used to just have some fun celebrating a hard-earned victory. You’re even able to interact with other players’ emotes and play rock, paper, scissors or get them to pull your finger, a nod to the latest Chemical Agents Warbond. Here’s how to use them properly.
How to use emotes on PS5 and PC
To use emotes on PS5, simply hold left on the D-Pad on a the controller or the B key on PC to emote. If you want to interact with an ally’s emote (say a hug or handshake), move near them and press the button prompt. You can rebind this designated emote button in the Communication menu in the game’s settings. Holding R1 on PS5 and Q on PC brings up a radial communications menu if you prefer giving commands like ‘Yes’ or ‘No.’

To change the emote, please follow these steps:
- First, head to the Character tab in the Armory and you can change your emote options.
- This lets you pick from the emotes you have unlocked so far. These are different from the Victory Poses you make at the end of a round, such as the Clapping victory pose. Remember that they can only be customized at an ally’s ship or your Destroyer ship. Everyone starts with the Casual Salute enabled to honor their comrades.
Helldivers 2 emotes ranked and how to get more
You can unlock new emotes from the Helldivers Mobilize! free Warbond in Helldivers 2’s Acquisition Center menu, as well as from the premium ones. These cost Medals that can be earned from missions in the game. Use these to learn how to hug and celebrate your victories. Arrowhead often adds new emotes, like one of the recent favourites from the Chemical Agents Warbond – the brilliant ‘pull my finger’.
