Effect of Elemental Mastery On Each Elemental Reaction
To understand Elemental Mastery better, you need to see how it affects various Elemental Reactions in the game. There are 14 Elemental Reactions in Genshin Impact, which can be classified into three main categories: Transformative, Amplifying, and Quicken. Let’s take a look at each of them:

Transformative Reactions
The damage dealt by Transformative Reactions doesn’t depend on the attacks used to trigger them. However, they deal their separate instances of damage, which can only be scaled by increasing Elemental Mastery. Transformative Reactions include Overload, Shattered, Electro-Charged, Superconduct, Swirl, Burning, Bloom, Hyperbloom, Burgeon, and Crystalize.
The Elemental Mastery (EM) grants a buff for the Transformative Reactions based on the following equation. Bear in mind that Y is the percentage boost to the damage dealt by Elemental Reaction.
Y = 16 × EMEM + 2000 × 100%
A brief summary of all Transformative Elemental Reactions is given below:
Overloaded
Overloaded is a combination of Pyro and Electro. It doesn’t matter which Element you use first, as long as you manage to inflict both Pyro and Electro, you will be able to trigger Overloaded. The Overloaded explosion is essentially an AoE explosion that deals Pyro damage to the enemies in its radius.

Shattered
To proc Shattered on your enemies, you first have to Freeze them with Cryo attacks and then use Blunt attacks, like Claymore or Geo abilities, on the Frozen enemies. Upon triggering Shattered, the Frozen Aura is removed from the enemies, but you deal massive Physical damage in exchange.
Electro-Charged
Electro-Charged is triggered by simultaneously applying both Hydro and Electro abilities on the enemies. As long as enemies remain Electro-Charged, their HP bar keeps declining due to its damage over time.

Superconduct
You can apply Superconduct on enemies by using a combination of Cryo and Electro abilities on them. It creates tiny explosions which damage all the enemies in its range. Furthermore, Superconduct nerfs the Physical damage resistance of enemies by 40% for 12 seconds, providing a useful opening to go ham on your opponents.

Swirl
Swirl is one of the strongest suits of Anemo characters. You can use an Anemo character in a combination of any Cryo, Pyro, Electro, or Hydro character to trigger Swirl. The Elemental Reaction creates a huge aura of various Elements around the enemies to deal bursts of damage.
Burning
Burning requires a Dendro and a Pyro character for it to be triggered. When Pyro and Dendro effects exist on an enemy at the same time, the enemy takes 4 ticks of Pyro damage per second. However, bear in mind that you must constantly apply Dendro to the affected enemy to maintain the Burning Reaction.

Bloom
Bloom is a combination of Dendro and Hydro. When they both exist on an enemy unit together, then Blood is triggered on the opponent. Bloom generates Dendro cores on the ground, which explode for massive AoE Dendro damage to all the enemies in its radius.
Hyperbloom
Hyperbloom has become one of the strongest Reactions in the game due to its increased damage output. It is triggered by applying Electro on the Dendro cores created due to Bloom Reaction. The cores turn into missiles that track and hit enemies, causing huge explosions and, obviously, damage!

Burgeon
Burgeon is another application of Bloom, just like Hyperbloom. It is triggered by applying Pyro to the Dendro cores created as a result of the Bloom Reaction. It helps in increasing the effectiveness of Dendro core explosions.

Crystalize
Crystallize is a unique Transformative Reaction as it doesn’t deal damage but rather absorbs damage as a shield. When you combine Pyro, Electro, Hydro, or Cryo with a Geo ability, it forms a Crystal on the ground, which you can utilize as a shield. The strength and health of the shield depend on your character’s Elemental Mastery.
The shield’s health percentage, represented as W, can be calculated by the following formula.
W = 4.44 × EMEM + 1400 × 100%

Amplifying Reactions
Next up, we have the Amplifying Reactions, which are classified as such since they amplify your damage. To be more precise, they debuff your enemies by granting a multiplier increase to your damage. Unlike the Transformative Reactions, they also benefit from the DMG% and CRIT% increase on your character.
The boost in Amplifying Reaction (represented by X) by your character’s Elemental Mastery can be calculated with the help of the following equation:
X = 2.78 × EMEM + 1400 × 100%
Let’s take a look at the Amplifying Reaction in Genshin Impact and their respective effects:
Vaporize
If you want to create Vaporize effect, first create a Pyro aura around the enemy unit and then use Hydro to trigger the Vaporize Reaction. It applies a 2x Base Damage Multiplier to your attacks which can further be increased depending on your Elemental Mastery.

Melt
Similar to the Vaporize Reaction, you can trigger Melt by applying Pyro on the enemies who are affected by Cryo. It also applies a 2x Damage Multiplier to your attacks which can also be picked up a notch by increasing your Elemental Mastery.
Quicken Reactions
The last Reaction type to discuss is Quicken, introduced fairly recently in version 3.0 of Genshin Impact. Quicken buffs your damage with your Level Multiplier and is triggered by applying Dendro and Electro to an enemy unit at the same time. The Elemental Reaction can be further extended to Aggravate and Spread Reactions.
The percentage increase in Quicken damage (represented by Z), depending upon your Elemental Mastery, is calculated as below:
Z = 5 × EMEM + 1200 × 100%
Let’s see the two Quicken Reactions you can use in Genshin Impact:
Aggravate
Applying Electro to an enemy unit affected by Quicken Aura triggers Aggravate. Therefore, if you’re building an Aggravate Team, you need a secondary Electro character with high Elemental Mastery in your team. Take note that Aggravate grants a 1.15x damage boost to your attacks. Any further buffs depend on your character’s Elemental Mastery.

Spread
When you apply any Dendro attacks to an enemy affected by Quicken Aura, you can trigger Spread, which has an effect of a 1.25x damage multiplier to your attacks. Make sure you use a secondary Dendro character like Dendro Traveler to proc Spread Reaction. You can increase the damage multiplier with your character’s Elemental Mastery.
How To Increase Elemental Mastery?
Now that you know the properties of various Elemental Reactions in Genshin Impact and how they’re scaled directly with the help of Elemental Mastery, let’s see how you can buff your Elemental Mastery. For any Reaction-based team, you want to stack Elemental Mastery to get the most out of your Elemental DMG.
There are two main ways of increasing Elemental Mastery for your build. Both are discussed below:
Using Weapons For Elemental Mastery Increase
One of the most common ways of stacking up Elemental Mastery is with the help of appropriate weapons. If you’re running a character like Kokomi or Jean, which require increased Elemental Mastery to buff their Elemental DMG, you want to use a weapon that grants EM as its bonus stat or passive effect.
Note: Make sure you read the bonus stat and passive effect description of your weapons to ensure it suits your build or not.

Using Artifacts For Elemental Mastery Increase
Another reliable method of amplifying the Elemental Mastery of your character is using the right Artifact set. You can read the two-piece or four-piece description of your Artifact set to find out its effects. Artifacts like Gilded Dreams grant a flat bonus to your Elemental Mastery, so make sure you equip the right sets which buff your Elemental Mastery.

Furthermore, remember that you can stack Elemental Mastery as the main stat or sub-stat on your Artifact’s Sands, Goblet, and Circlet.
