Layla is a 4-star Cryo Sword character in Genshin Impact, and we have picked out the best weapons for Layla to help enhance her shields, DPS, and utility.

As an HP-scaling character, Layla doesn’t have a ton of options when it comes to weapons. There are only a handful of weapons that scale with HP, and without them, you might be at a loss with what to give her. Layla’s kit is geared towards support, giving shields with her Skill but dealing low damage overall.

For more Genshin Impact, make sure you read our guides covering the best weapons for Kazuha and the best weapons for Xiangling. Now, these are our top choices for the best weapons for Layla in Genshin Impact.

Skyward Blade

  • Lvl. 90 Base ATK: Attack +608
  • Lvl. 90 Bonus Stat: Energy Recharge +55.1%
  • Passive Effect: CRIT Rate increased by 4%. Gains Skypiercing Might upon using an Elemental Burst: Increases Movement SPD by 10%, increases ATK SPD by 10%, and Normal and Charged hits deal additional DMG equal to 20% of ATK. Skypiercing Might lasts for 12s.

The Skyward Blade is not recommended for everyone to run on their Layla build. Instead, it can be a pretty niche sword. You will not get the best out of its bonus stat of Energy Recharge, but it does lend itself rather well to a sub-DPS Layla build.

It has a base ATK DMG of 608, one of the highest in our list, and its passive provides a CRIT Rate boost of 4%. Furthermore, it generally buffs your Layla’s DPS capabilities through increased movement speed, attack speed, and Normal as well as Charged hits damage buff. While this weapon technically is great for Layla, it is far better used in other hands.

✓ our advice

Layla’s best build is as a Shield Bot

Thanks to Layla’s kit, she is firmly a support character who can provide strong shields to your active character. Her Burst has low energy requirements and doesn’t need a lot of ER. Thanks to this, make sure everything gives her HP and then her weapon can focus on increasing ER.

The Dockhand’s Assistant

  • Lvl 90 Base Attack: Attack +510
  • Lvl 90 Bonus Stat: HP +41.3%
  • Passive Effect: When the wielder is healed or heals others, they will gain a Stoic’s Symbol that lasts 30s, up to a maximum of 3 Symbols. When using their Elemental Skill or Burst, all Symbols will be consumed and the Roused effect will be granted for 10s. For each Symbol consumed, gain 40 Elemental Mastery, and 2s after the effect occurs, 2 Energy per Symbol consumed will be restored for said character. The Roused effect can be triggered once every 15s, and Symbols can be gained even when the character is not on the field.

The Dockhand’s Assistant was added to the weapon Banner on a rolling basis during patch 4.0 and beyond. It is rather rare to encounter now, and you never know when it will come back to the banner as a featured weapon, which makes it hard to recommend.

The only reason we list this weapon here for Layla is because it has a bonus stat of HP%. This is incredibly rare for Swords in Genshin, and even though it isn’t a huge increase it is still better than nothing at all. Thanks to the HP increase, Layla can have stronger shields and this will be further enhanced by her Artifacts. Since her ER requirements are low anyway, this sword is fantastic for her.

Fleuve Cendre Ferryman

  • Lvl 90 Base Attack: Attack +510
  • Lvl 90 Bonus Stat: Energy Recharge +45.9%
  • Passive Effect: Increases Elemental Skill CRIT Rate by 8%. Additionally, increases Energy Recharge by 16% for 5s after using an Elemental Skill.

As a free-to-play weapon introduced in Fontaine, the Fleuve Cendre is a great addition for a more Burst-orientated Layla. This weapon helps increase her damage and there is a beautiful synergy with using her Skill to help charge her Burst thanks to the passive effect.

This weapon can be picked up for free in-game by doing a ton of fishing in Fontaine. While we don’t recommend this for a shield-focused Layla, this will help increase her damage and increase her already short Burst uptime for those who like to have it available.

Primordial Jade Cutter

  • Lvl. 90 Base ATK: Attack +542
  • Lvl. 90 Bonus Stat: CRIT Rate +44.1%
  • Passive: HP increased by 20%. Additionally, provides an ATK Bonus based on 1.2% of the wielder’s Max HP.

The Primordial Jade Cutter is one the best swords that provides an HP percentage bonus. It is the best weapon to run on a Field DPS Layla build due to the HP to ATK scaling bonus and the CRIT Rate increase as the bonus stat.

The Jade Cutter provides a 1.2% increase in the attack damage based on Layla’s max HP. Furthermore, a CRIT Rate of 44.1% makes it the best damage output option for Layla, as you will be able to take away vast chunks of enemies’ damage with it. With this weapon in hand, late-game bosses will be a walk in the park for you.

✓ Our advice

Primordial Jade Cutter is OP

The Primordial Jade Cutter is an outrageously good weapon not just for Layla, but any character. Even if you don’t scale off HP, the passive of the weapon will effective give you HP scaling based off your ATK stat.

Favonius Sword

  • Lvl. 90 Base ATK: Attack +454
  • Lvl. 90 Bonus Stat: Energy Recharge +61.3%
  • Passive Effect: CRIT hits have a 60% chance to generate a small amount of Elemental Particles, which will regenerate 6 Energy for the character. Can only occur once every 12s.

The Favonius Sword is arguably the best weapon choice for Layla among the four stars. It makes Layla’s Elemental Burst uptime consistent, and it will help the team generate particles through the weapon’s passive. Otherwise, you’ll mainly rely on its base ATK DMG and Elemental Burst proc to deal Cryo DMG with Layla. All in all, the Favonius Sword is the best for Layla, especially as a shield bot build.

✓ our advice

Default to the Favonius Sword

Before you begin building Layla, you should consider simply using the Favonius Sword above any other. As it stands, it suits her perfectly and all HP-scaling weapons are only obtainable through Wishing.

Key Of Khaj-Nisut

  • Lvl. 90 Base ATK: Attack +542
  • Lvl. 90 Bonus Stat: HP +66.2%
  • Passive: HP increased by 20%. When an Elemental Skill hits opponents, you gain the Grand Hymn effect for 20s increasing the wielder’s Elemental Mastery by 0.12% of their Max HP. This effect can trigger once every 0.3s. Max 3 stacks. When this effect gains 3 stacks, the Elemental Mastery of all nearby party members will be increased by 0.2% of the wielder’s max HP for 20s.

The Key Of Khaj-Nisut is hands down the best weapon for Layla. It comes with a ton of HP buff for Layla while also providing the Elemental Mastery to herself and her team with its passive effect. Not just that, the bonus stat of the Key grants Layla a massive 66.2% HP boost with an additional 20% on the passive effect.

Layla’s unique abilities make her the perfect candidate for Key to aid her and her party during fights. Since Key’s passive not only buffs Layla with 86% HP gain in total, the Elemental Mastery it provides to her party also scaled with Layla’s HP due to the Grand Hymm effect.

Key on Layla

It should be said that if you use Nilou, this is her signature sword and should always be used on Nilou when using her. Only give this weapon to Layla if Nilou is benched.

That’s all for our lists covering the best weapons for Layla in Genshin Impact. Since HP-scaling is a unique niche and the weapons with those stats are rare, her weapon choices can feel limited. That said, you can undoubtedly find something to your liking from this list.

Best weapons for Layla FAQ

What if I don’t have an HP-Scaling Sword?

Don’t worry! We don’t have an HP sword for Layla and we simply build her Artifacts to cover this. We’ve given her 4x Tenacity of the Millelith for an HP increase and a buff to her shield. Then we’ve given her HP% on all of her Artifacts!

Can Layla be a DPS?

In short, kind of. Her kit is support-focused, which makes it hard for her to break out of this. You can give her a sword such as Skyward Blade and have her Artifacts be a typical DPS-focused build, but you will lose out on her useful shields that are brilliant for Freeze comps with a stronger main Cryo DPS for the resonance.

What about 2x Tenacity and 2x Vourukasha’s Glow for Layla?

Generally speaking, the 4x Tenacity of the Millelith is the best Artifact Set for her. This will improve her Shield, buff the party, and increase her HP, which is what you want for a shield-bot Layla. Going for a mixture of 2x Tenacity and 2x Vourukasha will give Layla more DPS, but her shield will suffer.
