Playing Fortnite can be somewhat frustrating if you’re not winning any games. The point of the battle royale is to be the last person standing, which of course is far easier said than done. Considering how long the game has been out, it’s full of experienced players waiting to take you down, so if you’re looking to reach their level, we’ve got a few useful tips to help you do exactly that.

Tips and tricks – beginner’s guide to get good at Fortnite

Get comfortable with your loadout

Of course, you should always look to use the best weapons in Fortnite, but some weapons might not fit your playstyle. To get better at Fortnite, you need to find out what weapons work out for you. For example, a Pump Shotgun may not be great for you due to its slow rate of fire, while a Reaper Sniper Rifle could be great if you can consistently hit long-range shots.

Before you start winning games, you will need to learn your loadout. Due to this, try every type of Assault Rifle, check the difference between shotguns and SMGs, and choose the best weapons that fit your playstyle. You can carry up to five weapons in your inventory. However, we suggest you carry at least one healing item at all times. Ideally, you should reserve two slots for items that restore both health and shield. If you aren’t able to do so, we recommend you carry a couple of Small Shield Potions.

Adjust your settings – graphics, controller, and mouse and keyboard

If you play Fortnite on a controller, there’s a good chance you need to adjust your sensitivity settings, keybinds, and other controller options. Whether your platform is a PC or a console, you will have to change these settings in order to hit your shots consistently. Once again, you will need to test out different settings and find out what’s the best for you. Muscle memory plays a big role in the game, so make sure to find settings and keybinds you are comfortable with.

Practice makes perfect

Finding the best controller settings in Fortnite is somewhat difficult, as you will have to practice to get used to them. Due to this, we recommend you go into the game’s Creative mode to try your new settings out.

Similarly, adjust your graphics settings to match your platform and to get the most out of the game. Good visuals are great, but having the game perform well during the action is even better. Meanwhile, if you’re using a mouse and keyboard to play the game on PC, you should get comfortable with the keybinds. There are probably going to be a few that you want to adjust to fit your style. Consult our guide to find some of the best mouse and keyboard settings to get you on the right path.

Choose the right game mode

Fortnite’s unique mechanics helped it become one of the most popular games of all time, most notably its building. However, plenty of things have changed since the early days, and Fortnite in 2024 offers much more than just a building game mode. If you’re not a big fan of using your pickaxe to get building materials or if you’re not very good at building ramps and walls, you should try out Fortnite’s Zero Build mode, which can be played solo, or in groups of two to four. If you just want to improve your aim, give this mode a shot and see how well you do without building. You will still have to watch out for your surroundings and enemy fire, but at least you won’t have to worry about collecting resources and building.

Practice in Creative maps

You can brush up on your Fortnite skills by using the game’s Creative mode. This mode allows you to get better at Fortnite and take your skills to the next level without having the pressure of an actual match. If you want to get better at Fortnite, playing Creative mode is the easiest way to do so, letting you choose the specific area you want to improve on so you can focus entirely on it. Play smart

Even if you have the best aim and the fastest building skills in Fortnite, you may still find yourself losing games if your strategy is all wrong. Here are some basic tips to follow to make sure you stay alive right until the end.

Pick your fights

If you end up losing most of your fights, you should avoid them until the end game. While camping is frowned upon, this is a perfect strategy you can utilize to get to the top 10, and potentially even win the game. Use sneak attacks to catch players unaware and you’ll climb the ranks in no time.

Land at distant spots

Landing at Fortnite hot spots is not a great idea if you cannot take multiple enemies down. Due to this, we suggest you land at distant spots at the start of every game. To do this, simply pick the most distant spot from the bus, land there, and loot the entire area before moving to the safe zone.

Practice your skydiving

At some point, you may want to start landing at more popular spots. However, you will need to get better at skydiving and landing if you want to stand a chance. You can run faster than you fall while gliding, so aim for somewhere higher up and then slide down from there instead of just landing at a lower point normally.

Plan ahead

Keep an eye on the storm throughout every match! As soon as the circle closes, open the map to see where a new safe zone is and start moving to it. Plan your movement ahead and try to reach high ground to gain an advantage over your enemies.
