Even if you splash the cash in Career Mode and buy all the top players in the world, eventually, they’re all going to start retiring and you’re going to have to find yourself some new players. Well, what if we told you that if you star player retires, you’re able to find and sign an exact replica of them as a youth player? Enter, regens.
We’re going to take you through the regen system, explaining what it is and how it works so that even when the best players in the game have hung up their boots, you’ll be able to find them again and sign them back into your squad so you aren’t forced to shell out on a replacement that might not fit your tactics.
What is a regen?
A regen is simply a re-generated player. When a player retires, they don’t simply disappear from the game. Instead, a new version of that player is added to the pool of new players who appear each season to stop you from running out of players however many seasons into your save you get.
Take Luka Modric, for example. Aged 39 at the start of FC 25, he’ll retire pretty soon, and will then become available as a regen the season after he retires. Unfortunately, he won’t have the same name meaning you won’t be able to just search him up to find him. While this would suggest that finding regens of specific players is nigh on impossible, it is possible and we’re going to explain how to do it.
How to identify regens
Regens will be aged between 16-21, and they will be found in the same league as the player who retired. Additionally, they’ll have the same nationality, position and birthday as the player, and if their contract expired at the same time that they retired, they’ll be available as a free agent. Lastly, they’ll also have the same potential as the retiring player, ensuring that they can reach the same heights that they did. So, taking Luka Modric as an example again, if he retires after your first season, he’ll regen as a Croatian CM, born on 9 September, playing in La Liga.
How to get regens
You get some regens in your squad every year simply as a means of topping up the club’s squad list, but most of these will likely never be good enough to play for you. Instead, what you want to do is scout particular players who are retiring so that when they regen, you’re able to find them more easily. A handy trick is to add these players to your transfer targets, as once they disappear from your list it means they’ve retired.
Once the player has retired, you’ll want to search the league they retired in for players with the same nationality and position as them that are aged 16-21. There will likely be multiple players that fit these criteria, so check their dates of birth to find which one matches up with the retiring player – this will be your regen. After this, all you need to do is sign them as normal and you’ve got yourself a regen of the player you were after – simple!
