When you’re one on one with the goalkeeper, there are a few options you can use, and while a regular shot can often be all you need to bury the ball in the back of the net, in certain situations, the easiest way to score is to chip the ball high over the keeper’s head.
So if you often find yourself against keepers who like to come off their line, but don’t know how to lift the ball over them to score a simple goal, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve written this quick guide to tell you exactly how to do it so you can score some of the easiest goals you’ll ever score.
How to chip shot
To take a chip shot in FC 25, all you need to do is hold L1 (PlayStation) or LB (Xbox) while you take your shot. Depending on how long you hold shoot, your chip will go higher or lower. If you only tap shoot, then you’ll barely lift the ball off the ground, but if you hold it for a bit longer, you’ll lift the ball much higher, and potentially too high if you’re not careful.
Of course, there’s no point using a chip shot if the goalkeeper is on their line as they’ll simply be able to catch it 99% of the time. Instead, you want to use the chip shot when the goalkeeper comes off their line. Watch the goalkeeper, and once they’ve come far enough off their line, put a couple of bars of power into your shot and watch it sail over their head.
Another good time to use it is when you’re one on one with the keeper but don’t have much room to shoot. If you time things right, as the keeper dives down to claim the ball, you may be able to do a quick tap shot to chip the ball ever so slightly in the air, just beating the keeper and scoring – though be aware, this will likely only work if you’re already pretty close to the goal.
You should also be wary not to overuse the chip shot. Smart players who notice you using them regularly will attempt to trick you, bringing their keeper out slightly to bait you into chipping the ball, but will stay far enough back that you won’t be able to beat them, so don’t be afraid to hit them with a finesse shot or power shot every now and again to keep them on their toes.
