A Case of Sculptor’s Block might seem like a fetch quest first but there’s more to it in Dragon’s Dogma 2. It involves battling a fearsome Griffin long enough for a sculptor to examine it and appease a collector’s craving. Read on to learn the multiple ways of finishing this quest.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 A Case of Sculptor’s Block quest walkthrough
You’ll get A Case of Sculptor’s Block from Klark, who roams around the Noble Quarters in Vernworth. Look for a bald man standing outside his estate. He’ll tell you about his noteworthy sculpture collection and that he’s waiting for a new addition. Klark tasks you with heading to a sculptor in Battahl to see why it’s taking him so long. Going to Battahl is no easy task so it’s a good thing that this isn’t a timed quest.
Where is Fulvio in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
You’ll find sculptor Fulvio at his workshop in the Residential Ward of Bakbattahl. Don’t worry about finding it as it will be highlighted in yellow on your map. A sculpture of a goat in front of his workshop is a good landmark to keep in mind. It’s near the purchasable house in the city. You’ll find out that he is finding it difficult to picture a majestic Griffin for his sculpture. He asks you to fight a Griffin and allow him to sketch the battle. He suggests petrifying the Griffin to make things easier. Doing so will require Medusa’s head from the Caliginous Depths before you meet Fulvio at the Griffin’s nest but is optional.
If you choose to fight Medusa and bring her petrifying head, you’ll need to cut her head off with a slashing weapon to get a preserved Medusa head. This can be done once you stagger her with attacks. Remember to pack some Stamina items as hacking her head can take a couple of hits. Remember to rush to the Griffin’s location as the item can decay into the withered Medusa head over time.
Prolong the Griffin fight in A Case of Sculptor’s Block
The next part of the quest involves heading to the Wasteland Griffin’s Nest south of the Checkpoint Rest Town. Ropeways can help you get here fast. We’ve marked it in the map above. It’s past a riftstone and campsite so you can freshen up before the fight. You’ll find Fulvio waiting for you and he’ll accompany you to the nest. You’ll find a Griffin waiting for you and depending on your level, it can be fairly challenging. A Case of Sculptor’s Block and its rewards hinge on how you face this enemy in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
The key thing to remember here is that you need to draw out the fight for Fulvio to get an accurate sketch. Remember to protect him from the Griffin’s attacks too. You can revive him with a Wakestone but this will affect the quality of his sketch. I suppose a resurrected sculptor will have a hard time sketching the finer details of what killed him. But if Fulvio is safe, remember not to go overboard with your attacks.
Focus on healing or protecting your pawns for some time before directly engaging the Griffin. If its health depletes too quickly, it may fly away in fear. And if you had decided to fight Medusa for her head, this is when you can equip the item before activating it to petrify the Griffin. Once Fulvio is satisfied with his work, he’ll shout and you can then finish the Griffin off in battle. Remember to collect all the items in its nest, including a Portcrystal.
Check on Fulvio’s progress after a few days
Now that Fulvio has the sketch, he’ll ask you to wait for a couple of days. You can rest at an inn, a campsite, or a bench to pass the time. After a day or two, you can head to Fulvio’s workshop to check in on him. He’ll announce that he’s ready to present the sculpture. Then head back to Klark’s estate in Vernworth for the grand unveiling. A Ferrystone can help you get to Vernworth fast. Or if you want a lengthy ox cart journey, get one from Bakbattahl to Checkpoint Rest Town and then the capital city of Vernworth.
All Dragon’s Dogma 2 A Case of Sculptor’s Block outcomes and rewards
Here are the possible outcomes and their rewards with respect to the quest:
Good Ending
If you petrified the Griffin or extended the battle, Klark will get a magnificent Griffin sculpture and will reward you with 4500 XP and 14000 Gold. Don’t forget to look around his estate for chests with more rewards. Fulvio’s masterpiece will be praised as well.
Bad Ending
If you killed the Griffin too quickly or if Fulvio was killed and revived, your side quest rewards will be halved. This means that you’ll only get 2250 XP and 7000 Gold. While you won’t be blamed, Klark won’t be happy with the results and Fulvio will be mocked by the attendees.
Should you petrify the Griffin for Fulvio in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
While petrifying the Griffin with Medusa’s head will make the quest easier, it isn’t necessary. If you fight the Griffin for a decent amount of time, Fulvio will be able to produce an optimal sketch for his sculpture. He will also indicate this by shouting that he’s done as you fight the Griffin. So unless you want more experience and a new petrifying item, you don’t have to go through the trouble of beating Medusa. Your reward will be the same as long as you take your time during the Griffin fight.
