The HALPS Prototype counts among a slew of new features introduced to Deathloop as part of Goldenloop update. The new update marks the immersive sim’s one-year anniversary and simultaneous launch on Xbox Series consoles. Developer Arkane has gone the extra mile to bring us a new laser-powered gadget to take down eternalists in fresh, inventive ways.

The HALPs Prototype is located in The Complex, specifically in the small green outbuilding on the shore opposite Dr. Wenjie’s main lab building, notable for having a hulking satellite dish on top.

You can visit either in the morning/noon when Wenjie is absent or in the afternoon when Wenjie clones and the renowned physicist herself are there to block your path to the HALPS. Visiting in the morning or noon is the simplest option as you’ll only need to contend with only a few eternalists to get to the Deathloop HALPS Prototype. We recommend morning as it means you can take a shorter route to the lab.

Load into the Complex and leave the tunnels out of the left exit. Once out into the level proper, head straight and cross the water by jumping between the ice platforms towards the green lab building. Using the Shift slab makes easy work of this. Once across, avoid the camera on the right and take out the eternalist patrolling on the rocky outcrop leading to the lab.

Unlocking the Case

Enter the lab, turn left, then immediately right, and head to the small room straight ahead of you at the back of the lab. This room contains the HALPS Prototype. Before going inside, note the green beams emitted by a pair of cameras. Don’t scramble the cameras. You’ll need them to unlock the case containing the Deathloop HALPS Prototype.

Enter the room and immediately interact with both levers. Doing so will activate the HALPS, firing the weapon’s laser beam through the first camera, then the next, and finally onto the weapons battery station, opening the case. Chances are the beam kills you. Not to worry, though, Reprise does its thing, and Colt will revive.

What Is the HALPS Prototype in Deathloop

The HALPS Prototype is a scientific ‘light projection’ (read laser) device developed by Dr Wenjie Evans for experimental use, per the in-game description. Firing the beam at enemies turns them into a pile of ash. The weapon comes with a unique crosshair that turns red when it’s pointed at a target. Track an enemy for a few seconds to see them combust into nothingness.

Unlike traditional weapons in Deathloop that use ammo, the HALPS Prototype runs on batteries, so you’ll need to track these down along with battery stations to refill the gun. Another nifty aspect of the HALPS is that shooting it at turrets and sensors redirects the beam to match their path, much like we saw with the cameras when opening the case in Wenjie’s lab.

That’s a wrap on how to get the HALPS Prototype in Deathloop. Have fun out there.
