Most Souls-likes have some form of parry system, offering rewards for perfectly timed high-risk-high-reward blocks. However, Black Myth Wukong doesn’t have a parry system, instead opting for a dodge system that rewards those with nimble fingers and solid timing. Perfect dodges grant bonuses to your combat stats during a fight, making them a must-have skill that’s well worth mastering early on. Here’s everything you need to know about dodging and a parry-like alternative for those that can’t get rid of that ingrained Souls-like muscle memory.
How to perfect dodge
To perfect dodge, you need to dodge just before an attack is about to hit. Successfully pulling off a perfect dodge refills your Focus meter. Certain bosses and enemies are much easier to perfect dodge than other. Beyond the Focus boost, there are other buffs you can get for perfectly dodging an opponent, namely from specific armor sets.
In Chapter 2, you can get a new Galeguard armour set that awards perfect dodging. The two-set bonus awards an increased amount of Focus when landing perfect dodges. The four-set bonus grants players a reduced cooldown on spells after performing perfect dodges. The Galeguard Greaves, in particular, have a unique effect that when you perform three perfect dodges in a row, you get a brief window to recover mana.
Parry-like skills
The Evanescence upgrade for the Immobilize spell gives you a parry-like mechanic, by extending the duration of the skill massively. However, it only triggers if you land the Immobilize spell right as the enemy’s attack is about to hit you. Keep in mind that Immobilize has an animation to it, so the timing can be a bit tricky. It’s not traditional parrying by any means, but it’s as close as you’ll get in Black Myth Wukong.
