Black Myth: Wukong is a sparwling epic decked out with diverging paths, biomes, and chapters, in keeping with its suitably epic source material. However, as dense and visually astounding as jumping in as the titular Wukong can be, trying to explore the world can be pain, chiefly because there is no in-game map to speak of. To solve for this, fan-made maps have appeared and developers Game Science has fashioned together at simple fast-travel mechanic. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how fast travel works in Black Myth Wukong.

Black Myth Wukong fast travel and Keeper’s Shrines explained

Black Myth Wukong is split up into chapters, which other than marking major story beats are also crucial to how fast travel works. For example, the forest area is Chapter 1, while the desert biome is Chapter 2, Chapter 3 takes you to the snowy mountain area, the fourth is the swamp area, and so on. These biomes are broken into different areas, each one representing a fast travel point or a Keeper’s Shrine. The Shrines work in a similar way to bonfire in Dark Souls or Sites of Grace in Elden Ring only in a slightly more linear fashion given that Black Myth isn’t open world

Keeper’s Shrines are found and unlocked along the linear pathways as part of the main story. If you decide to explore, you may come across certain areas that are entirely optional. These too have their own Keeper’s Shrines, which are often used for exploring, collecting items, or even looking for optional bosses and NPCs. These can also be used as fast travel points.

To use a Shrine, simply interact with one, and you’ll find the names of the major areas in each chapter. These are then broken down into a sub-directory of the optional Keeper’s Shrines you have discovered. It won’t be until Chapters 2 and 3 that you’ll start to come across these optional areas. One example is the Rock Crash Shrine, used to reach the secret Buddha boss as well as the Fright Cliffs area that contains hidden NPC ques tlines like the Sober Pig and optional bosses. This is the only time that the games goes non-linear.

In other instances, there are secret and missable alcoves, rooms, or other areas that unlock as you progress. You may need to check your pathways before progressing to ensure you don’t miss secret areas with missable rewards like drinks, soaks, or treasure chests. Part of the game’s exploration is double-checking your linear areas for small areas you might miss. This is also the case for NPCs so make sure you speak to them whenever you come across one because they run travel between areas. Sometimes they go further into the chapter’s regions, other times they backtrack to areas you’ve already been.

✓ what are keeper’s shrines?

Keeper’s Shrines are located through the game. The first one is discovered shortly after the tutorial. You’ll be able to travel instantly between Keeper’s Shrines where incense has already been offered. We strongly recommend exploring for hidden bosses and pathways once the game gets less linear in Chapter 2.

Typically, NPC dialogue offers major clues about where you need to go. Most points of interest have a smaller Keeper’s Shrine near them. If you need more info on an area, then you can check the Meditation Sites in the journal for more info. Resting at Meditation Sites will give you a preview of the nearby area. The cinematic’s panning shots of the area to help you track down hidden pathways and area. Typically the areas are beauty landmarks, while others point to areas you can go to or interact with.

Is there a Black Myth Wukong map mod?

Fortunately for players who really want to have a map, a few mods have been released that provide the option. There is a mini-map mod that, frankly, takes away a lot of screen space. That’s why we prefer using the Simple Map mod, which has a separate map screen that you can bring up.
