There’s no shame in adjusting a game to make it a little less challenging – and that’s certainly the case with Black Myth: Wukong. You may just be looking to pass the time or are trying to find out what happens next in the story. Here, we’ll be sharing some info on the game’s difficulty and what your options are in case you need to tone things down a bit to move forward.

Whether you’re familiar with the game’s genre or the novel it’s based on, you can expect a lot of challenging boss fights during your journey. A lot of these encounters can get frustrating, some of which we’ve chatted about in our Black Myth: Wukong review, so let’s go ahead and check out the details.

Does Black Myth Wukong have difficulty options?

No, the game doesn’t have any straightforward difficulty settings that you can adjust. However, there are other ways to make boss fights less challenging. You just won’t be able to do it with a flip of a switch.

As you play through the game, you’ll gain access to an assortment of magic and vessels that can make a big impact on certain fights. You can also absorb spirits to transform into enemies like the Wandering Wight and use their abilities in combat. Utilising these tools is much like using summons in Elden Ring, a similarly challenging game that also lacks traditional difficulty settings. So it’s possible to make Black Myth Wukong easier, it just requires a bit of work.

Is Black Myth: Wukong hard?

From the playthrough we’ve had here at Videogamer, we can safely say that Black Myth is a pretty tough game. It’s not Soulsborne hard and is certainly less technical and more forgiving, but the boss fights you’ll play through, especially in the later chapters will test timing and skill. Craig Robinson, who reviewed the game for Videogamer, said: “Most bossess are one shotable and dont pose that much of a threat. Some of the harder ones on that scale take maybe four tries at most to get right.

“If you need to make the game easier, then most of the actual hard bosses tend to have a vessel you unlock from that chapter. Vessels come from secret areas that you unlock in each chapter. Chapter 1 requires ringing three bells you find on the map. Chapter 2 requires completing the Drunken pig storyline. Chapter 1 gives you some fire resistance to fight the end boss, for example.

“Oh, and spells are op and are like the game’s easy mode, the same way summons are the easy mode in Elden Ring.”
