If there’s one thing that Fortnite has become famous for since its launch back in 2017, it’s skins. Skins have become part and parcel of the game, and whether it’s original outfits or crossovers with massive franchises, fans are always eager to get their hands on the latest big skins to show off with friends. But over the years there are some skins that have become the best of the best. Whether that’s because of their rarity, their customisation options, or simply how popular they are, these are the most valuable skins and the ones players want to have – with some of them not even being available anymore.
Top 13 best skins in Fortnite
Many Fortnite skins are only released for a limited time, meaning they are only available for purchase in the Item Shop for a couple of days or weeks before being removed from the game. These skins are often part of special events or campaigns and cannot be purchased after the event or promotion ends. Here are the 13 best Fortnite skins so far, in our picks:
Skin | First appearance |
---|---|
Chun-Li | February 2021, Chapter 2 Season 5 |
Aura | May 2019, Season 8 |
Galaxy | August 2018, Season 5 |
Black Knight | December 2017, Season 2 Battle Pass |
Omega | May 2018, Season 4 Battle Pass |
The Reaper | February 2018, Season 3 Battle Pass |
Peely | February 2019, Season 8 Battle Pass |
Lynx | December 2018, Season 7 Battle Pass |
Midas | February 2020, Chapter 2 Season 2 Battle Pass |
Deadpool | April 2020, Chapter 2 Season 2 |
Drift | July 2018, Season 5 Battle Pass |
Fishstick | December 2018, Season 7 |
Skull Trooper | October 2017, Season 1 |
Skins provide a sense of exclusivity and uniqueness, as players must act quickly if they want to purchase a particular skin before it is no longer available. It also motivates players to visit and play the game regularly so that they can buy new skins as soon as they are released.
Chun Li
We’ll start with Chun Li, which has been a favourite among Fortnite players since the skin’s release. There are two different versions of Chun-Li, who brought her legendary past in Street Fighter straight into Fortnite. At the moment, you do not have a chance to get this skin, with the last time it featured in the Item Shop being in August 2022. However, there is a possibility that Epic Games will add Chun Li back to the Item Shop at some point in the future, so be sure to keep an eye out.
Aura
The first Fortnite original skin on the list, Aura was released all the way back in Season 8. But while this is one of the older skins on the list, that hasn’t stopped it from remaining one of the most popular, partly thanks to it coming in three different styles for players to choose from. She’s not available to buy in the Item Shop right now, but this skin makes a return to the store fairly regularly, with the last time being in March 2024. So if you’re after the Aura skin, you probably won’t have long to wait before you have the chance to get it again.
Galaxy Skin
In third place is one of Fortnite’s rarest skins. You had to log in and play three matches on either a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 to get the Galaxy skin, which was released way back in 2018 with Season 5. Since this agreement between the two brands has expired, you no longer have a chance to get the Galaxy skin for now. It has never appeared in the Item Shop, and it seems unlikely that it ever will. If you are one of the lucky players who received this outfit in time, congratulations.
Black Knight
The Black Knight skin is one of the oldest skins in the game, which is a big part of why it’s become so iconic. Introduced way back in 2017, it was unlocked by reaching Tier 70 of the Season 2 Battle Pass. And like many early Battle Pass skins, this is another one that simply isn’t available anymore, making it a rarity and quite valuable among Fortnite players.
Omega
Omega is another original skin that’s popular thanks to its customisability. Unlocked via the Season 4 Battle Pass, the higher your level went, the more customisation options you unlocked for the skin, with Tier 100 granting you the ability to change the style and colour of different parts of the outfit. Unfortunately, this is another skin that simply isn’t available anymore. While a remixed version called Omega Knight was released later, and has very rarely appeared in the Item Shop, we’re yet to see any return for Omega.
The Reaper
The Reaper is an interesting skin. It’s based on John Wick, but since its release, an actual John Wick skin has been added into the game, making The Reaper almost a copy of a different skin. It was a reward in the Chapter 1 Season 3 Battle Pass, and despite not being a proper John Wick skin, its rarity in comparison is what makes it so valuable. The outfit was released in collaboration with John Wick 3, but hasn’t made its way back into the game yet. There could always be a re-release alongside the next John Wick movie, but that’s probably unlikely.
Peely
Introduced back in the Season 8 Battle Pass in 2019, Peely has almost become one of the mascots of Fortnite, appearing in promotional pictures in the past few years, getting some spinoff skins and even becoming an NPC in the game itself for players to talk to. Unfortunately, as popular as this skin has become, the story is the same as with a lot of our previous choices, with the Peely skin being completely unavailable following the end of the Season 8 Battle Pass, having not made its way into the Item Shop at all.
Lynx
Lynx is another skin that has some customisability. The skin starts off as a fairly standard one, with Lynx as a human wearing a hoodie, but each stage of the customisation makes her more robotic, with the final one being her wearing a full robot suit, which itself can have its colour changed between the default colours, red, blue and black. It was available as a bundle with the Season 7 Battle Pass, but hasn’t been made available since, so if you’ve got this skin already then you’re one of the lucky few.
Midas
Just like Lynx, Midas is a hugely popular skin thanks to the customisation options. The default skin is just Midas as a human, but other options change him to be completely gold, with the final stage making his clothes gold as well. Unfortunately, the days when you can get this skin are long gone, with it being a part of the Chapter 2 Season 2 Battle Pass back in 2020, making it one of the most valuable skins in the game to-date.
Deadpool
The Deadpool skin may not be one of the rarest, but it is definitely one of the most popular. It was initially added to the game as a Battle Pass reward, bringing one of Marvel’s most popular characters to the game, where it immediately became a fan favourite. It was introduced during Chapter 2 Season 2 as a reward for completing Deadpool’s Weekly Challenges, but unfortunately, it hasn’t made a return to the game at all since then. Hopefully it will make a comeback with the next Deadpool movie, but until then, there’s no way to get this skin.
Drift
Drift is a skin that was awarded to players who purchased the Season 5 Battle Pass in 2018. Initially just a man wearing a fox mask, further customisation options could be earned by earning a certain amount of XP during that Season, unlocking new vests, a hood, and even a cloak with glowing pink detailing on it. Unfortunately, Drift hasn’t made its way into the Item Shop since its release, and it’s looking unlikely that it will be making any kind of return in the future.
Fishstick
Fishstick is another skin that has become a kind of mascot for Fortnite. This iconic fishy skin was first introduced in Season 7, and has a few variations with Pirate and VR variants, as well as a limited edition World Cup style that was available in 2019. While you can’t get that World Cup style anymore, you can thankfully still get your hands on Fishstick, as this skin regularly makes its way back into the Item Shop, most recently being available at the start of April 2024.
Skull Trooper
Last but not least we have Skull Trooper, another skin with some great customisation options. Introduced all the way back in Season 1, it’s a skeleton costume with the ability to change the colour of the bones between purple, a green glow, gold, and even inverting the black and white colours. Not only that, but you can even turn on eye trails to have an eerie blue glow from your eyes. To end on a positive note, this is one skin that has been made available in the years since, with it most recently being available in the Item Shop in April 2024 – hopefully, it won’t be too long until the next time!
While they might not be among the best, you could get your hands on some free skins in the meantime. Also, check out some of the rarest skins in Fortnite as well.
