Players who have been up to mischief across Faerun in Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 can find themselves caught and put in jail. While you can get away with a misdeed here and there, sometimes you’ll find yourself caught by the long limbs of the law. Some BG3 classes like the Rogue are more adept at breaking out of prison. However, our guide will explain how to get out of jail no matter what.
How to get out of jail in Baldur’s Gate 3
You can usually get out of jail in Baldur’s Gate 3 by using Misty Step, lockpicking the door, or convincing the guards to let you go. Escaping a prison gives you the Fugitive status for 9 turns. Becoming a band of outlaws isn’t an ideal outcome. You can either wait it out or sneak past the guards to stay safe. Combat isn’t a great option while trying to avoid getting into prison. Instead, you can try speaking to a guard to pass a Persuasion, Deception, or Intimidation skill check. And if that doesn’t work, you can try bribing a guard. But this is usually possible only before being thrown into prison as you won’t have any money in a jail cell.
How to get out of Hollow Jail in BG3
Stealing from crates or opening the locked cabin where Pandirna is located can land you in prison right in the game’s first Act. This can happen if you mess up a dice roll with a character named Mol. Here’s how to leave the Druid Grove prison in The Hollow:
- Use spells like Misty Step or Arrow of Teleportation to leave.
- Lockpick the cell door lock with the Sleight of Hand skill.
- Jump via the wooden wall to the left. Then watch out for the explosive plants on the platforms that can be dealt with by ranged attacks. These lead to a secret door into the prison area near Sazza’s cage. Climbing the knotted roots and opening the Stone Door to the left leads to the tunnels housing a few Goblin scouts.
You can find your equipment in the equipment chests outside of the cell room.
How to get out of Goblin Camp Prison in BG3
Here’s how to slip out of the Goblin Camp prison:
- Misty Step or Arrow of Teleportation works here too.
- Lockpick the cell door lock with the Sleight of Hand skill.
- Interact with a Mysterious Hole in the basement. Remove the body stuffed here to escape.
You can find your equipment in the equipment chests outside of the cell room.
Prisons usually have your equipment nearby so remember to take it before making your escape. It’s often stored in one of the nearby chests.
How to get out of Moonrise Towers Prison in BG3
The Moonrise Towers is a prominent location in Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3. Tasked with rescuing imprisoned gnomes and Tieflings (and possibly Minthara), you might find yourself landing up in prison alongside them. Breaking out won’t be easy with guards and Scrying Eyes prowling about. Here’s how to get out of Moonrise Towers prison:
- Misty Step or Arrow of Teleportation.
- Unlock the jail cell from the watch tower. Baldur’s Gate 3 companions like Astarion can get rid of the guards or bypass them to reach the watch tower and its control levers. You can shove a guard off a broken railing and then take care of the Scrying Eyes one by one. The watch tower also has your equipment.
- Jump into the hole. This drops you into a fight with an Illithid Oubliette and Hook Horrors without your equipment. Don’t try this unless you’re absolutely desperate. You can always explore this area after joining your companions and getting your gear.
How to get out of Baldur’s Gate prison in BG3
At the end of the game, you’ll learn how to reach the city of Baldur’s Gate. Mess around and you might find yourself in prison once more. To escape the Baldur’s Gate prison, try the following steps:
- Misty Step of Arrow of Teleportation. It’s standard procedure at this point.
- Lockpick the cell door lock with the Sleight of Hand skill.
If you don’t have Thieves’ Tools or a scroll of Misty Step, you can transfer it to your character from one of your companions in the inventory menu. And your equipment (including potions) will be right outside your cell, usually alongside a guard or warden. If a companion can assist you, Dimension Door is a great spell to have.
That covers how to get out of jail in Baldur’s Gate 3. While there are different ways of getting caught, freeing your character from prison usually follows the same set of instructions. Select actions like the persuasion option or a lockpick will do the trick. Unless you’d like to play as a murderous character, of course.
While some prisons have unique ways of escaping, others hold unique perils as well. Just remember that prison isn’t a game over.
