Alan Wake 2 inventory upgrades – how to increase inventory space

Alan Wake 2 inventory space is fairly limited, especially if you plan on hoovering up all the gear found in Cult Stashes and containers around Bright Falls. As Saga and Alan’s survival relies heavily on having flashlight batteries, ammo, and other items, you’ll invariably spend some time managing your inventory. Fortunately, you can make the task a little easier with Alan Wake 2 inventory upgrades, which boost your inventory slots so you can carry more.

How to increase inventory space

To increase inventory space in Alan Wake 2, you’ll need to find inventory upgrades if you’re playing as Saga or unlock a specific Word of Power called Words of Stuff Magic Pocket if you’re playing Alan’s missions.

Saga inventory upgrades

These are the inventory upgrades to find to increase Saga’s inventory space:

Inventory upgrade 1

This one is first available from the Return 2 The Heart mission onward. When you visit the General Store in Cauldron Lake, a Taken will jump out from the back of the shop, chasing you outside. Once he’s dead, head to the back of the store and you’ll find the inventory upgrade on an overturned cabinet to the right of the glass case containing the sawed-off shotgun.

Inventory upgrade 2

The upgrade is available near the end of the Return 2 The Heart mission after going through the overlap and defeating Nightingale in the Witch’s Ladle at Cauldron Lake. 

Once you reach the beach on the Cauldron Lake Shore, a portion of the map becomes explorable as the flooding has subsided. Head south under the collapsed tree, then continue following the path until you spot a pile of driftwood on your right you can crawl under. You’ll find a Cult Stash on the other side containing the inventory upgrade. To open the stash, match the blinking light pattern on the keypad.

Inventory upgrade 3

The upgrade is available after completing Return 5 Old Gods and returning to downtown Bright Falls. Use the bolt cutters to access the pier with the Fresh Seafood building. As you go through the gate, enter the shack on the right to find a Cult Stash. The code to open it is 697. You can figure out the combination by finding the numbers on the poles in the water near the pier that indicate water levels , starting from the highest level to the lowest.

Alan Wake inventory upgrades

You’ll need to find and choose the Words of Stuff Magic Power Word of Power to increase Alan’s inventory capacity. You’ll find it during the Initiation 5 Room 665 mission and your visit to the Oceanview Hotel. The Focus point is located near the bar in the hotel ballroom.
