How to get the Alan Wake 2 bolt cutters

The bolt cutters in Alan Wake 2 are useful for getting through chained gates and doors to reach loot and collectibles, the first of which pops up in Cauldron Lake at the start of the game. Try as you may to track them down, the bolt cutters aren’t available until about half way through the game.

The bolt cutters in Alan Wake 2 are in a locked tool cabinet in the overlap towards the end of Saga’s Return 5 Old Gods mission. Make your way through the Valhalla Nursing Home and Wellness Center until you enter the Overlap in the pond at the back of the manor.

Once inside the overlap, make your way through the looping underground corridors until you come to the second power switch in a room at the top of a flight of stairs. Next to the power switch is a locked grated tool cabinet. Inside are the bolt cutters, but you’ll need a key.

Hit the switch then go through the now-accessible doorway into another room. Pull the power switch at the back to alter the room. You’ll find the Tool Cabinet Key in the draw of a green desk along the left-hand side of the room. Go back to the power switch next to the cabinet and pull it to reveal the cabinet again. Use the key to open the cabinet and get the bolt cutters.
