The Lockwood MK2 is a weapon featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022). It is one of the Marksman Rifles available in the game. Don’t let its appearance fool you; this Old West-style rifle can more than keep up with the rest of Modern Warfare 2’s sleek and deadly weapons. The Lockwood MK 2’s small clip size may make resource management more pertinent than with most guns in MW2, but if you can make every shot count, you’ll have few competitors at long range.

This gun is not for the average player. Packing a rifle from a century ago makes about as much sense as using watermelon to carve a steak, especially when everyone around you has fully automatic weapons. But, some people will still want to try it out. The Lockwood is for those with a sense of style. Its old-fashioned lever action makes the rate of fire on this weapon ideal for the modern battlefield, and it packs a serious punch. If you’ve got the spirit of a cowboy, then this is an obvious choice.

The best Modern Warfare 2 Lockwood MK2 loadout acts as one of many hybrids between an assault rifle and a sniper. In Infinity Ward’s latest Call of Duty title, the marksman rifle category continues to provide players with other options as they attempt to craft a loadout to suit their style of play.

Overview

The Lockwood MK2 is a standout marksman rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This long-range death-dealing tool will allow you to make cross-map shots that other weapons can only dream of. With the right loadout, the Lockwood MK2 can help you rise in the Modern Warfare 2 rankings quickly.

You’ve got one to two shots before you’re spotted, so make them count, and have one be a headshot if possible. Unfortunately, a body shot won’t knock an enemy out, so if you miss that follow-up shot, be ready to meet your maker.

The Design of the Lockwood MK2

The design of the Lockwood Mk2 is based on a real-life Marlin 336. The Marlin Model 336 is a lever-action rifle and carbine made by Marlin Firearms. Since its introduction in 1948, it has been offered in a number of different calibers and barrel lengths but is commonly chambered in .30-30 Winchester or .35 Remington, using a 20 or 24-inch barrel.

Stats of the Lockwood MK2

The Lockwood MK2 comes with a bolt-action mechanism sniper fans will find extremely familiar, alongside a high damage output and levels of mobility that are superior to any sniper in the weapon arsenal. Although the rifle can kill an opponent with a single bullet from the chest up, the occasional hit marker can result in plenty of unwanted deaths. This lever-action rifle deals serious damage but is only used by the most skilled marksmen.

It acts as one of many hybrids between an assault rifle and a sniper. In Infinity Ward’s latest Call of Duty title, the sniper rifle category continues to give players other options as they try to craft a loadout that suits their playstyle.

Damage

The Marksman Rifle features an abnormally low damage per shot but has a high fire rate. Consequently, the weapon can do high damage per second, more than the Heavy Sniper’s damage, making it useful to attack and deal damage to multiple enemies in a short amount of time.

Accuracy

It combines high power and accuracy, as well as a high rate of fire when compared to the other rifles. It is a one-shot kill at any range, to the head or chest, just like the bolt-action rifles,

Recoil

The Lockwood MK2 recoil is low compared to the other Marksman rifles. Going prone with a sniper rifle in Modern Warfare 2 has the massive benefit of reducing recoil to almost negligent amounts, allowing for rapid follow-up shots on any rifle. The low recoil paired with the gun’s high damage per second stats and high fire rate compensate for its sub-par base damage.

Close range

Its slow rate of fire makes it difficult to use in close quarters. The Lockwood MK2 is primarily designed as a long-range marksman rifle which makes it a poor competitor for close-quarters combat in all scenarios. Players should opt for a high fire rate semi-automatic secondary pistol such as the X13 Auto or the X12 to make up for the rapid-fire rate and close range capabilities of the Lockwood MK2

Long Range

At a maximum distance, it will take up to three rounds to kill if the shots hit the limbs and one round if they hit the head. Although the Lockwood MK2 has decent long-range accuracy, the low damage output makes it an unfavorable rifle to control the long-range sight lines, especially going up against veteran sniper users.

Magazine Size

It has a decent magazine size and firecap and therefore is best reserved for medium-to-long-range combat.

How To Unlock The Lockwood MK2

You can unlock guns in Modern Warfare 2 beta by equipping various firearms from the loadout menu and leveling them up. In Modern Warfare 2’s Gunsmith 2.0.

Like several weapons in Modern Warfare 2, the Lockwood MK2 is part of a new weapon progression tree. You’ll need to raise your progression level to 23 in order to get your hands on the rifle.

Weapons Platform

Currently, some weapon platforms still consist of only one weapon, such as the Lockwood MK2.

Bugs

While Infinity Ward is well aware, it now seems the issue has become more alarming. In the second week of the beta, players have noticed snipers are shockingly able to see through smoke as though it was never there. While unscoped, the player was unable to see through gates on the Mercado Las Almas map. Quickly scoping in, they quickly removed all smoke from the area, allowing them to see directly through to the other side.

This glitch lets casual players get the job done in the Modern Warfare 2 beta. Since the ability to completely bypass the effects of smoke grenades gives players an unfair advantage, this is a game-breaking glitch.

Blueprints

Currently, no blueprints are available for the Lockwood MK2 and will be listed once the game officially launches. The only available blueprints featured in the game so far were the Frontal Impact and Side Impact Blueprint.

Attachments

The MW2 beta has not yet allowed players to unlock attachments for the Lockwood MK2 unless you use the default class, which is by no means bad. If you want to get to grips with the Lockwood MK2 class, the default is the best way to go.

However, when the time comes for attachments to be available on the best MW2 Lockwood MK2 class, the main options that you’ll want will increase any and all forms of speed. Whether that be ADS time, sprint-to-fire stats, or sway movement speed, increasing a lot of them will be best.

Deadeye Stalker Build

The only attachment currently available for the Lockwood MK2 requires a bit of finesse on the user’s part. Players can equip the Deadeye Stalker Build with the Optic Scope for the Lockwood MK2, but it won’t be through the Gunsmith or any Weapons Platform for that matter.

  1. Players will not be able to unlock the Optics Sight for the Lockwood MK2 and must repeat the instructions listed below to equip the Optics Sight in-game.
  2. To access the Deadeye Stalker Build featuring the Optics Sight for the Lockwood MK2, hop into any of the various multiplayer game modes, whether it be 6V6 Core or Battle Maps.
  3. Open loadout settings during the game and switch to default and select the default Lockwood MK2 setup known as the Deadeye Stalker. Navigate to the Optics attachments and there you’ll have it. The Deadeye Stalker will be available for users to enjoy and nail the longer sight lines.
  • Spotter
  • Bird’s Eye

Spotter

You’ll be spending most of your time aiming down sights with your Lockwood MK2 anyway, and the Spotter perk allows you to serve as an invaluable member of your team while doing so, highlighting equipment, deployed killstreaks, and field upgrades.

Bird’s Eye

The zoomed-out minimap provided by Bird’s Eye pairs nicely with the MK2’s excellent range, and since this perk allows you to spot enemies, you’ll soon be able to take them out from a safe vantage.

Alternative Perks

  • Basic: Overkill
  • Bonus: Focus
  • Ultimate: Hardline
  • Base Battle Hardened
  • Double Time (Base)
  • Lethal: Semtex
  • Tactical: Heart rate monitor

Semtex

Semtex is ideal for dishing out some extra damage, and if you’re quick enough, it’s easy to stick it to an opponent to guarantee a kill.

Heartbeat Sensor

The Heartbeat Sensor is a multi-purpose tool for this loadout. The Lockwood’s long-range capabilities are second to none, but the weapon falters somewhat at close range. The Heartbeat Sensor will prevent you from being picked off by close-up ambushes and also reveal enemies that will be all too easy for you to headshot.

Alternative Equipment

  • Frag Grenade
  • Thermite
  • Flash Grenade
  • Medical Syringe
  • Shock Stick
  • Dead Silence

Dead Silence

The ability to slow the movement of an enemy gives you plenty of time to line up the shot to add another elimination to your name, while dead silence temporarily silences footsteps, which is crucial when sneaking behind enemy lines.

Alternative Field Upgrades

  • Trophy System
  • Portable Radar
  • Battle Rage
  • Trip Mine

Lockwood MK2 Substitute

There are other options for you to test out, such as the Signal 50. If you are not quite a fan of lever-action rifles like the Lockwood MK2, The Signal 50 is a high-powered sniper rifle, perfect for long-distance encounters. It’s very effective in modes that feature larger maps, too.
