Infinity Ward’s best FPS shooter of the year Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is making a return with some revamped graphics and additional content in the mix. The title is coming back with an arsenal of new weapons which can pump out some real damage. One of these deadly guns is the Kastov-74u which can be accessed early within Modern Warfare 2.

With the right loadout and attachment combinations, Kastov-74u is a lethal Assault Rifle available from the get-go in default Hunter Mode. This deadly mid-short range rifle comes in handy during up-close encounters such as in-door gunfights and corridor chase-downs. Additionally, you can pick some enemies off in the medium to long-range sightlines if you ever manage to master the Kastov-74u Assault Rifle.

Players enjoyed experimenting with the new weapons and attachment combinations during the Open Beta that took place from the 24th to the 26th of September 2022. Now fans are eagerly waiting for the actual release to see what else they’ll be getting for their Kasto-74u Assault Rifle builds.

And as for the official release, the game will hit the shelves on October 28, 2022, with Warzone 2.0 dropping alongside Modern Warfare 2’s first season set for November 16, 2022.

Kastov-74u Overview

kastov-74u call of duty modern warfare 2

The Kastov 74u is a primary Assault Rifle featured in Modern Warfare 2’s Multiplayer mode available from the get-go with a pre-build loadout. The weapon was featured in the Open Beta and will be available on Day One once the game launches.

The Rifle works ideally in the short to medium-range distances. The compact receiver and barrel design encourage its use in short-range combat, making it a versatile armament in most scenarios.

Formerly named the AK-74u and designed a submachine in previous iterations of Call of Duty such as Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3(2011), Black Ops II, and Cold War, the Kastov is now categorized as an Assault Rifle. The Kastov-74u is modeled after the real-life Kalashnikov AKS-74U created by the Soviet Union. The Gun was inspired by its AR comrade, the AK47, and is still in service to this day. The gun features a 30-round magazine and takes up 5.45×39mm caliber rounds.

Weapons Platform

The Assault Rifle is part of the AK weapons platform and can be modified using a selection of receivers that can be unlocked as the user levels up and progresses the Weapons Platform. The weapons platform enables players to swap out receivers and create entirely new weapons. Currently, the Kastov 74u is the only weapon available in the AK Weapons Platform and the list will be updated once more weapons and receivers are added on Day One.

Kastov 74u Stats

The Kastov-74u has a magazine capacity of 30 bullets with a 60 bullet reserve threshold. The gun features 5 attachment slots, not counting the receiver modification.

Overall, the gun features some decent stars for newbies to get a feel for Modern Warfare 2’s Multiplayer.

Damage

The Kastov-74u has a respectable damage output to put enemies out of their misery pretty fast.

Fire Rate

The gun features a semi-auto and fully automatic firing system allowing users to spray down enemies on the go.

Accuracy

The Kastov-74u offers medium to high levels of accuracy while hip-firing or aiming down sights allowing balanced gameplay across the board.

Recoil Control

The AK Assault Rifle features a medium level of recoil control due to its compact build. Thus players can accurately take down enemies within short to medium-range sightlines without the fear of missing shots.

Mobility

The Kastov-74u offers players above-average levels of mobility, enabling players to navigate corners, tight spaces, or busy sections of the map. Additionally, it’s the perfect weapon to have on hand whether it be to reposition, relocate, regroup or escape an enemy ambush.

Handling

The Kastov offers above-average levels of handling due to its small form factor while acting as a full-fledged assault rifle.

Kastov 74u Blueprints

Blueprints allow users to access weapons earlier in your level progression and weapons platform progression tree, enabling players to access powerful weaponry earlier on in the game. Blueprints come pre-built with custom attachments and weapon skins for players to enjoy unique weapon builds and experiences. Blueprints can be viewed in the armory section of the weapons tab. Currently, no blueprints are available for the Kastov74u, and will be listed once the game officially launches.

Unlocking the Kastov-74u in Modern Warfare 2

The Kastov-74u is yours to use right from the beginning in Modern Warfare 2. So, to start experimenting with attachments and perks, all you need to do is unlock custom loadouts at level 4.

Until you achieve that, you may still use a pre-build Kastov class. This is possible only in one of the default loadouts and does not have the option of customization. This is what players experienced in the Open Beta. They are now counting the days till the official release so they can get their hands on all attachment categories and build the best loadout suited to them.

Bugs

Additionally, some players complained that they couldn’t add any attachments to the Kastov-74u despite unlocking the weapon as well as the necessary attachments for the weapon in the gunsmith while some players have stated that they were able to add attachments to the guns without any problems whatsoever.

This could be chalked up as a bug considering the game was in its Open Beta phase and Infinity Ward will hopefully patch the game and bug sometime in the future when the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 officially releases with a speculated Day One Patch on October 28, 2022.

Attachments

Attachments for specific weapons can be unlocked as the player levels up. Additionally, newer attachments can be unlocked by progressing the Weapons Platform. Players can either unlock Weapons Platform Specific Attachments, usable with the Platform in question, being the AK platform, or Universal Attachments, which can be equipped to every weapon in the game.

Currently, no barrel, magazine, rear grip, and stock attachments are available for the Kastov-74u, but players can at least enjoy Optics, Muzzles, Underbarrels, and Lasers for the weapon. For now, the following weapon attachments are available for the Kastov 74u and more will be listed for the game on Day One.

Best Alternatives to Kastov-74u in Modern Warfare 2

If the Kastov-74u is coming up short, players may switch to the Lachman Sub. This short-range gun is no doubt the best of its kind in the game as of now.

However, you can also opt for something far more balanced. If that’s the case, then the M4 Assault Rifle is the right choice for you.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will officially release on October 28, 2022, for the Xbox series S|X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC
