The Fennec 45 is a very unique gun in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It may not have the stopping power of other SMGs like the FSS Hurricane, but the Fennec 45 still has interesting things going for it.

The Fennec 45 differs from other SMGs in Modern Warfare 2 due to its inherent stealth features. The Fennec has subsonic ammunition that keeps the enemy team from seeing kill skulls. This stealth mode limits the enemies access to crucial information, which is an appealing idea for a pistol that excels at obtaining the upper hand and delivering short bursts of lethal fire.

Fennec 45 also featured in previous COD games but with the name Vector. This close-range beast has a high firing rate that can tear the enemy apart in a few bullets. Additionally, it deals an impressive amount of damage even on a mid-range enemy as compared to other SMGs in Modern Warfare 2. However, while engaging in a long-ranged battle, a Fennec 45 is not recommended because it can take an entire magazine of bullets to kill the enemy.

Fennec 45 Overview

The Fennec 45 is a submachine gun featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. What sets the Fennec 45 apart from other SMGs in Modern Warfare 2 is its built-in stealth capabilities. The Fennec comes with Subsonic Ammo that hides kill skulls from the opposing team. This ability to go incognito restricts opponents’ access to key information, an attractive prospect for a gun that excels at getting the drop on enemies and delivering quick bursts of deadly fire.

Design

The Fennec 45 is modeled after the real-life Kriss Vector .45. The Kriss Vector is a commercially available SMG manufactured by Kriss USA in both 9mm and .45ACP calibers and has been considered the ideal choice for both military and law enforcement agencies seeking a controllable and compact weapon system for CQB engagement.

Weapons Platform

Something new added to the forefront of the Gunsmith in the weapons tab is the Weapons Platform which allows users access to a collection of five weapons that can share a full pool of attachments. Weapons Platforms allow users to streamline progression and attachment unlocking in a user-friendly manner, enabling you to switch between multiple playstyles effortlessly using the select roster of weapons available on a Platform.

You can pretty much revamp an armament in Gunsmith that is part of the larger Weapons Platform. This can easily be accomplished by swapping out receivers. Editing out the receiver will switch the weapon’s category, transforming it into an entirely different weapon,

Unfortunately, the Fennec 45 is not a part of any Weapons Platform so far, but that might change once the game releases on October 28, 2022, and with future Multiplayer Seasons set from November 16, 2022.

Fennec 45 Stats

The Fennec is an aggressive, fully automatic submachine gun with a gentle recoil that helps you take down opponents on the battlefield without having to reload. In close combat, you only need four shots to take down opponents without armor, and if you’re skilled, you can just need three if you can land a headshot.

The Fennec 45 is different from the best Lachmann MP5 sub loadout or the greatest FSS Hurricane loadout. It fires quickly and does a lot of harm in brief bursts. Even without attachments, it is light and has great agility and movement speed. To make the most of this SMG, more work must yet be done.

Damage

The Fennec 45 is incapable of getting a one-hit kill in hardcore game types without a headshot. Headshots will reduce the number of hits needed to kill by one in most circumstances. The Fennec 45 also has low penetration power, meaning that the Fennec 45 loses a great portion of its already small damage when shooting through all but the lightest of obstacles.

In other game modes and multiplayer maps, the Fennec fairs the worst and is not your go-to SMG for run and gun loadouts. Most players absolutely avoid the Fennec 45 in their setups whether it be 6V6 core multiplayer maps the likes of Mercados Las Almas or one of the wide-scale battle maps of Ground War Mode.

Fire rate

The Fennec 45’s rate of fire is the highest of all SMGs, firing at 1111 RPM. The Fennec 45 is tied with the G18 for the highest fully automatic fire rate in multiplayer. The Fennec 45’s damage per bullet is easily offset by the extreme rate of fire.

  • 800 RPM (SP)
  • 1111 RPM (MP) (1395 RPM with Rapid Fire)

Penetration

  •  Low

The low level of penetration offered by the Fennec 45 makes it impossible to kill enemies that are hiding behind otherwise penetrable pieces of cover.

Fire Mode

  • Automatic

Accuracy

The Fennec 45’s accuracy is among the best in the SMG category. Only the Mini-Uzi can rival the Fennec 45 in the accuracy stakes. Even with the Fennec 45’s extremely high rate of fire, the Fennec 45 remains accurate. The center speed on the Fennec 45 is also high, at 1800. This prevents the recoil from accumulating too much. The sheer rate of fire of the Fennec 45 will cause some recoil to accumulate, but the combination of low recoil per shot and a high center speed makes the Fennec 45 easy to rest on target.

Recoil Control

The lower recoil control when compared to the other SMGs doesn’t help in this regard, making it much harder to land shots when engaging with enemies from a distance.

The Fennec 45 could see changes and improvements between the second beta weekend and launch, but we’d recommend choosing either the Lachmann Sub or the FSS Hurricane for the remainder of the beta.

Mobility

The Fennec 45 offers players medium levels of mobility. With no attachments, the Fennec 45 allows players to move around with decent levels of mobility albeit not as good as compared to its other SMG counterparts such as the go-to meta for the beta, the Lachmann Sub.

Range

Short range

At any range short of 19 meters, the Fennec 45 will deal 25 damage per bullet, needing four shots to kill. Damage decreases linearly until 25 meters.

The weapon fires 45 hollow-point rounds, allowing you to use it as a two-round burst weapon to finish off targets after three shots to the torso, or as a single-shot weapon with a headshot to quickly finish off targets in close range.

Long range

At any range past 25 meters, the Fennec 45 will deal twenty damage per bullet, needing five hits to kill. The Fennec 45 is a four-hit kill to the body out to 20 meters.

The Fennec 45 does fire fast, but the shots are a little too weak to feel impactful. It also doesn’t have much range, meaning you might struggle in some of Modern Warfare 2’s wider maps.

Handling

The Fennec 45 has good handling characteristics for an SMG. The Fennec 45 allows users to move at 100% of the base movement speed and strafe at 80% of the base speed.

Magazine Capacity

The Fennec 45’s magazine capacity is tied for the lowest in the SMG class, at thirty rounds per magazine. The starting ammo loadout is ninety rounds total.

Fennec 45 Blueprints

Blueprints allow users to access weapons earlier in their level progression and weapons platform progression trees, enabling players to access powerful weaponry earlier in the game. These come pre-built with custom attachments and weapon skins for players to enjoy unique weapon builds and experiences. Blueprints can be viewed in the armory section of the weapons tab. Currently, no blueprints are available for the Fennec 45, and will be listed once the game officially launches.

Unlocking the Fennec 45 in Modern Warfare 2

Unlocking weapons in Modern Warfare 2—and by extension, its beta—is different from previous titles. In order to get your hands on the Fennec 45, all you need to do is reach Level 25. There’s no need to use any other weapons to unlock a specific receiver, so you can start shredding with this powerful SMG.

  • Reach level 25 to unlock the Fennec 45
  • Pause the game, then select the Loadout option to equip the Fennec.
  • To get your hands on the Fennec, switch to the default mode and select the Deadeye Stalker Class.

Bugs

Given that the game was still in its open beta stage, the game featured multiple gun-specific bugs. Currently, there are no bugs and glitches involving the Fennec 45. Infinity Ward will likely patch the game and bugs at some point after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is officially released on October 28, 2022, with a potential Day One Patch.

Attachments

Attachments for specific weapons can be unlocked as the player levels up. Additionally, newer attachments can be unlocked by progressing the Weapons Platform. Players can either unlock Weapons Platform Specific Attachments, which are currently unavailable for the Fennec 45 since it doesn’t feature a Weapons Platform, or Universal Attachments, which can be equipped to every weapon in the game.

While the Fennec 45 is very useful in specific circumstances, it’s perhaps a little too niche for its own good. While attachments can certainly help to boost its initially underwhelming firepower and range, it’s still wise to carry a second primary firearm along with the Fennec, as it is often somewhat underpowered in all-out firefights.

As mentioned above, the Fennec 45 that appears in the Modern Warfare 2 beta features no weapon progression, making it impossible to tell what the best attachments are.

Go-to Perks for the Fennec 45

• Double Time (Base)

• Battle Hardened (Base)

• Quick Fix (Bonus)

• Birds-Eye (Ultimate)

For our base perks, Double Time and Battle-Hardened act as a strong starting combination. An increase in Tactical Sprint combined with resistance to any incoming flash or stun grenades allows you to move quickly and maintain focus on your target.

The best bonus perk to use in Modern Warfare 2 is Quick Fix due to the fast time to kill. Scoring a kill instantly triggers health regeneration enabling you to get back in the fight as fast as possible.

Lastly and by no means least is Birds-Eye as our ultimate perk. Once active, you can see red dots on the mini-map allowing you to plan your next move with ease.

Go To Equipment for the Fennec 45

• Lethal: Semtex

• Tactical: Flash Grenade

• Field Upgrade: Dead Silence

This equipment combination is proving extremely popular. Use semtex to clear players off a Domination flag or stick it to an oncoming vehicle for an explosive surprise. As for a flash grenade, throw it around a corner to see if anyone’s waiting and if they are, fly forwards to secure a very easy kill.

Lastly, dead silence is our field upgrade of choice. Temporarily silence your footsteps to sneak behind enemy lines without alerting anyone to your location. Most kills use at least half a magazine so make sure to keep an eye on your ammunition if you’re on a lengthy streak. However, there are better options if you’re looking for an SMG that performs at longer distances.

Alternatives

The Fennec 45 currently ranks as the worst SMG in the Modern Warfare 2 beta, as it can’t compete with the other options mentioned above. The best alternative is the FSS Hurricane, which has a larger magazine that can hold 50-rounds, making it an absolute powerhouse that can unleash a storm of shots at a group of enemies. While the Lachmann Sub also allows you to move faster and has more control.
