Want to respec in Lords of the Fallen? Sometimes you’ll find a particular build in an RPG just isn’t working for you. This is no less true in Hexwork’s new Souls-like sequel title. But is there a way to reset your character’s stats and respec? And if so, how do you do it?

You can indeed respec in Lords of the Fallen, and we’ll walk you through how to do it here. If you’re not yet sure how you want to rework your build, why not take a look at our advice on the best starting class to get some ideas flowing? We’ve also got some more general tips and tricks that might help you with the game.

To respec, you need to acquire a Rebirth Chrysalis, then speak to Pieta at Skyrest Bridge, the main hub area of the game. Pieta is the NPC from which you’ll be able to perform Rebirths, though the dialogue option won’t be available until you’ve acquired a Chrysalis. Selecting the option once it becomes available will then allow you to reset all of your character’s stats to what they were at the beginning of the game. You’ll be refunded all the Vigor for these levels, and can then redistribute them as you like.

How to get a Rebirth Chrysalis

Getting a Rebirth Chrysalis for the respec process isn’t easy, as they’re far from a common item. Just like trying to upgrade the Sanguinarix, or finding large Deralium fragments to upgrade weapons with, you’ll very rarely come across the item in question. What makes them particularly challenging to find is their exclusivity to later areas of the game. The Fief of the Chill Curse and the Tower of Penance are good locations to search. Try exploring the Umbral for your best chances to find them. If you want to get your hands on one earlier, there’s another way.

In our playthrough for our Lords of the Fallen review, our first encounter with a Rebirth Chrysalis was from another source though. If you speak to Molhu, the vendor who handles boss remembrances and Umbral Lamp Upgrades, you’ll find that he sells a Rebirth Chrysalis. It costs 8,000 Vigor, so it isn’t a cheap purchase. You can also buy them from Winterberry, an easy-to-miss vendor you’ll meet in Revelation Depths after using the Drainage Control Key to lower the water levels. Be aware that if you head up and out of the area after clearing the boss, you’ll lose the opportunity to meet this vendor due to some NPCs quest progressions.

One final, arguably more difficult way, is to trade in Plucked Eyeballs at the Shrine of the Putrid Mother, found nearby to Molhu. These are a challenging item to get in large quantities as they’re earnt by participating in online play. The player pool is fairly significant, so taking part in PvP shouldn’t be an issue for players whether on PC, Xbox Series X or otherwise. If you don’t feel like invading though, you can also earn a handful of the currency every time you defeat an empowered version of an enemy that another player died to. Find a glowing red lantern on the ground and Soulflay it. This will create a trail of red moths to a nearby enemy that another player recently died to. Defeat this enemy and you’ll gain three Plucked Eyeballs.
