Is Lords of the Fallen (2023) open world? Lords of the Fallen is something of a soft reboot, approaching the game differently than its predecessor a few years ago.
The game’s combat is focused on third-person action, with fully realised environments to explore as you fight tough enemies and use your melee and magic to proceed. Taking place in a dark fantasy setting, Lords of the Fallen is in the same world as its predecessor, it is many years in the future, offering plenty to dive into when it launches.

Is Lords of the Fallen open world?
Lords of the Fallen won’t have a fully open world to explore but will feature a semi-open world. The gameplay will feature something of an explorable world, but not in the traditional sense you might expect. For example, you won’t have total freedom to go wherever you want from the beginning, but you will have vast areas and locations to travel through.
Lords of the Fallen has a dual-world system, which is explained as two layers. One layer will let you access areas and secrets not available in the other, and vice versa. As it stands, we don’t know how big the map will be and how expansive the areas will be. This probably won’t be a map like Elden Ring, if we had to guess we would say it will be smaller and more contained as a third-person action game.
That is all we know about the explorable world. If you want to know more, check out our impressions of the game in our Lords of the Fallen preview.
