At The Game Awards 2025, Crystal Dynamics treated us to not one but two Tomb Raider announcements. Among these was Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, a ground-up reboot of the original Tomb Raider released nearly three decades ago in 1996.
Leveraging modern technology and game design innovations, the reimagining aims to pay suitable homage to the original while taking some creative liberties to offer a fresh take on Lara’s very first adventure. Read on, and we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis.
Predicted Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis release

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is penciled in for release in 2026, as shared in the announcement trailer that debuted during The Game Awards 2025 show. Beyond 2026, Crystal Dynamics is keeping an exact release date under wraps for the time being, but sometime in the latter half of the year is a reasonable guess.
Speaking speculatively, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis release in September or October 2026, just in time for the holiday period. It’s also worth leaving some leeway for potential last-minute delays. For the time being, we’ll have to sit tight and wait for firm confirmation from Crystal Dynamics.
Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis gameplay and story predictions

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is described as “a ground-up reimagining” of the original 1996 Tomb Raider. The stress is that this isn’t just a remake or a remaster, but a truly original take on the adventure that started the Lara Croft series. Crystal Dynamics says it is doing this while still “honoring the spirit and atmosphere of Lara Croft’s debut adventure.”
Like in the original, the moment-to-moment action will blend puzzle-solving, exploration, daring traversal, and combat against lethal predators, including dinos like in the original. Crystal Dynamics also says to expect a few surprises.
As for the story, you’ll play as Lara Croft as she hunts for the scattered pieces of a powerful artifact called the Scion. This will take you on a globe-trotting adventure with stops in Greece, Peru, Egypt, and a mysterious Mediterranean island.
Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis trailers
The hype mill has treated us to only a single Raider Legacy of Atlantis trailer so far. It debuted at The Game Awards 2025, serving as an announcement for the game. Displaying jaw-dropping visuals (especially compared to the original), we track Lara as she makes vertiginous dives, bests deadly contraptions, swings across bottomless chasms, and bumps into a few feathery dinos.

As detailed in the announcement trailer that aired during The Game Awards 2025, Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is set for release on the three major platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Steam storefront.
There’s been no mention of a Nintendo Switch 2 version. That’s not to say it won’t ever reach Nintendo’s new flagship machine, but for the time being, it hasn’t been announced. If we do get a Nintendo Switch 2 version, it almost certainly won’t be released alongside the other three confirmed platforms.
