Being a Helldivers 2 player has been a rollercoaster over the past week, following Sony’s announcement that all PC players must connect a PSN account to the game. This led to a lot of backlash from the community, in part due to this requirement excluding players in over 170 countries. Eventually, Sony backtracked on this and now PC players won’t be required to connect one. This was in part due to the immense review bombing that took place and the overwhelming outcry on social media by the community.

After having gained the title of the most negatively reviewed paid game in Steam history, with only the free-to-play Counter-Strike 2, PUBG, and Dota 2 having more negative reviews, it has now dropped down to second place. At its peak during the PSN controversy, Helldivers 2 gained over 369,000 negative reviews. Since Sony backtracked on its plans to force all PC players to connect a PSN account to Helldivers 2, which also led to players in over 170 countries being unable to purchase the game, players have been reversing their negative reviews which led to over 200,000 positive reviews being posted in a single day.

Now, according to Steamdb, Helldivers 2 has dropped down to second place, giving Call of Duty its title on most negatively reviewed paid game back, which stands at over 237,775 negative reviews and 329,344 positive reviews, compared to Helldivers 2 which has now dropped down to 237,594 negative reviews. At its lowest, Helldivers 2 had an ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ review score, reaching around 19%. Now it has bounced back to over 70%, which is still less than the approximately 85% it was at before the controversy, but it will likely get closer to that figure as time goes on.

Helldivers 2’s player count has also been growing again, with it recently hitting the highest peak so far this month as players become invested in the game again, as well as wait for the new negative review graph Cape that will be granted to the community for free. This comes at a great time as a lot is going on in Helldivers 2 right now.

The new Polar Patriots Warbond will go live on May 9th, bringing new weapons, armor, utilities, and cosmetics to the game. When it comes to gameplay, the new Major Order once again focuses on the Terminids as their resistance to Termicide has made them a “greater threat than ever before.” To ensure victory and democracy are brought to the galaxy, we highly recommend checking out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide so you can serve liber-tea to every enemy that stands in the way of freedom.
