LG’s current proprietary Smart TV operating system is known as webOS 22, with another update announced at this year’s CES 2023. There’s no confirmed release date for the next iteration of this operating software, however webOS 23 is only going to be available on LG’s 2023 Smart TV range due to the limitations of the older smart TV processors. Android TV is Google’s proprietary TV operating system and is based off the Linux kernel – as is webOS. While this suggests that the TVs will have a wealth of compatible apps – this isn’t exactly true. Android TV is, as the name suggests, an Android operating system which can load all the apps from the Android TV store.
Due to Android’s open source community – there’s already an abundance of apps available for Android TV. webOS on the other hand is slightly limited.
