The upcoming RTX 4070 Ti Super has a lot to prove, but also a fair amount to fix. What’s immediately clear in the jump from Ampere (RTX 30 series) to Ada (RTX 40 series) has been the vastly increased pricing that’s accompanied the next generation. In previous GPU generations, 70-class meant mid-range in performance and was usually far cheaper than the 80-class flagships, but that’s all changed now. Let’s get into how the RTX 4070 Ti Super could be the saving grace here. We’re showing you where to buy RTX 4070 Ti Super graphics cards, too.

Let’s get into the RTX 4070 Ti Super’s price as a point of discussion – it retails starting from $799 / £769 which is around $100 / £120 more than what the RTX 3080 was at release. It’s no secret that the RTX 4070 Ti was originally supposed to be the RTX 4080 12GB before it was unlaunched by Nvidia. It was a confusing time for buyers, especially considering that the RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti kept pricing relatively similar to their predecessors. With the RTX 4070 Ti, Nvidia is delivering on 80-class performance while keeping prices identical.

That’s right, it’s not really a 70-class card, but an 80-class GPU that’s now going to be far more powerful. Team Green has fitted the upcoming GPU with an AD103 die, the same one found on the RTX 4080, as well as bumping up the VRAM from 12GB to 16GB, in line with its larger sibling. For the broad strokes, this essentially positions it as an RTX 4080 for $799. When we think about it like that, it makes a lot more sense.

The RTX 4080 is also getting something of a redemption arc in the second year of Ada’s lifespan. That’s because Nvidia’s upcoming revision will come in a full $200 / £180 cheaper than its predecessor with slight performance boosts, lowering the barrier of entry. Lined up against each other, the RTX 4070 Ti Super at $799 and RTX 4080 Super at $999 are far more attractive propositions than their counterparts. Which were essentially a far too expensive 70-class GPU and a full 70% markup for an 80-class model, dwarfed by the pricing of the RTX 4090 for just $300 more.

You got the power to let power go?

If there’s been any consistent criticism through at the Ada generation it’s been its price point. Technologically speaking, the advancements made with the RTX 40 series have been remarkable; DLSS 3 Frame Generation and 3.5 Ray Reconstruction have made these cards the definitive best way to play many demanding games. However, in the pursuit of all that power, it’s come at too steep a cost for the average consumer, and that’s where the RTX 4070 Ti Super and its sibling can reclaim a win here.

The benchmarks above posted by Nvidia showcase the RTX 4070 Ti Super running Cyberpunk 2077 maxed out with RT Overdrive enabled at 1440p. Really, we should start looking at cards based on their preferred resolutions at playable framerates instead of their power potential. Team Green says it’s a card built for high-end 1440p and it delivers based on its internal numbers, with 4K very much a possibility.

Essentially, the RTX 40 Super series is either more powerful or considerably cheaper, which will be welcome news to anyone who held out in 2022 or last year. For as much as I love my RTX 4090, I know that most consumers won’t be using such a high-end card, but with the RTX 4070 Ti Super, Team Green looks to be delivering a card that actually lives up to its $799 price tag. We’ll have the full review and benchmarks from our own internal testing to show soon, so keep posted here on VideoGamer.
