Get a leg-up in the Battle Royale with the best GPU for Fortnite. Building a PC involves many choices, perhaps the chief among them is which GPU to go for. Basing your choice around a specific game, that you know you want to run smoothly, is a great way to narrow down your options. It also helps you build a computer that is optimised for what you need it to do.
While Fortnite isn’t exactly a serious game that demands a powerful graphics card, there are much more demanding ones out there. Fellow Battle Royale game Warzone 2 for example eats up processing power, thus demanding a more powerful GPU, which you can find amongst the best GPU for Warzone 2. This gives you more freedom, for example, you can go for a high-end GPU that is capable of playing Fortnite at 4K like the RTX 4070 Ti, or a budget friendly GPU like GTX 1660 Super. This card is still capable of running the game just at lower settings.
Of course, it might be worth tweaking things to find the best graphics settings for Fortnite on PC. It’s also worth keeping in mind that you’ll need to pair whatever GPU you get, with a CPU that is able to make use of its power. If you need any help with these terms, you can check out our guide on GPU vs CPU. However, without further ado, here are our best GPUs for Fortnite, including a range of budget, 4K, 1440p and standard graphics cards – so that there’s an option for any gamer and their demands.

Gigantic heatsink means this GPU can run cool
This is the ideal card for playing Fortnite at either 1440p or 1080p.
The ASUS ROG Strix is a great version of the classic RTX 3060 card. It’s a powerful and enduringly popular card and for good reason. It’s capable of over 200 frames per second on high settings at 1080p, ensuring you’re reactions in Fortnite will be as fast as possible.
If you’re more interested in having the most pleasant visual experience, it can also handle 4K at around 80 fps, which is seriously impressive. All the more so when you consider its price, which has finally come down from its stratospheric prices of 2021
The ASUS ROS Strix edition we have linked to here has improvements in all the right places. Not only does it look the part in just about any PC build imaginable, but it also has a boost Clock of 1912 MHz and PCI Express 4.0. Thanks to this it even made WePC’s list of the best RTX 3060 graphics cards this year.

Take advantage of the dual BIOS
The card itself is already quiet, but with Dual BIOS, you can swap between quiet and performance modes.
The RX 7900 XTX is the most powerful card in the RX 7000 range, making it the most powerful to make use of the innovative RDNA 3 architecture release. This makes for an incredibly high-spec graphics card, capable of playing Fortnite on the highest settings at 360Hz. Check out WePC’s review of the RX 7900 XTX to get a more detailed breakdown.
Hertz count refers to the refresh rate of a monitor, meaning the number of times it is capable of updating the image it shows per second. This means it maps perfectly to frames per second, as a result, there is no point having a monitor capable of 360Hz, if you don’t have a GPU able to create 360 frames per second to feed it.
The RX 7900 XTX does not have that issue. It easily achieves 360fps on Fortnite on competitive settings at 1080p. It’s even able to handle around 120fps pretty consistently at 4K, which is really impressive. While it might occasionally drop below, if you have a monitor with free-sync, you shouldn’t notice the moments where this happens.
Really this GPU is so powerful it could be argued it is overkill for Fortnite, though it does permit 4K gaming at over 100fps, which very few other graphics cards could. AMD has also been smart in its design to reduce costs elsewhere, most obviously through its power efficiency, which far outperforms its immediate competitor the RTX 4090. This will save you on energy bills throughout the year. It is also far smaller than its competition meaning that most gamers will not need to rejig or rebuild their whole computer to fit it in.
3. Best GPU for Fortnite at 1080p

300 W
- Excellent cooling system
- 100FPS+ average in AAA games
- 1.3x the performace-per-watt compared to the RTX 3060
- Unfortunately not a dual card slot
This card is ideal for the overclockers out there
With a 2.5 slot heatsink, this card excels at heat dissipation and maximises airflow so you needn’t worry about the card overheating.
The RX 6600 XT is a pretty mighty GPU, especially for its price range. It’ll handle Fortnite at 1080p at frame rates above 200fps, which is the upper limit for many gaming monitors anyway.
This is helped by AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology, which features on the RX 6600 XT. This boosts frames and increases detail at higher frame rates. It’s only compatible with certain games, and fortunately, Fortnite is one of them.
That being said, it is a shame that it is not capable of Raytracing as some of the other cards on this list, though this is reflected in the price. Furthermore, while raytracing does have an impact on Fortnite, it makes the biggest difference in games that are trying to be more photo-realistic.
The version of the RX 6600 XT we’ve linked to here, comes with a boost clock of 2491MHz and a stylish look, though ones made by other manufacturers will work just as well for Fortnite.
4. Best GPU for Fortnite at 4K

It’s a big card!
Make sure you check this card fits inside your case before purchasing. For reference, it measures 17.6 x 11.38 x 4.84 inches.
When it was released, the RTX 3090 Ti was the most powerful consumer graphics card that money could buy. While since then it has been usurped by its sibling, the RTX 4090, it is still very capable of handling Fortnite at a stunning 4K resolution, though, of course, it’s a massive overkill card. For more on that, take a look at the comparison between the RTX 3090 Ti vs the RTX 4090.
It’s also capable of raytracing, a technology that allows for a stunningly realistic recreation of how light behaves in the physical world. At 4K it hovers at around 100fps, depending of course on what CPU you have. These rates shoot up for 1440p, and 1080p, meaning if you want to put your game face on at times, you can be sure to have a snappy response time.
As we’ve already mentioned, there are a few cards more powerful than the RTX 3090 Ti, and thus more capable at 4K, however, the jump up in price is too steep to be worth the few extra frames you get, making the RTX 3090 Ti our top pick.
5. Best budget friendly GPU for Fortnite
MSI GTX 1660 Super Ventus XS OC
Base Clock
1530 MHz
Boost Clock
1815 MHz
VRAM
6GB
Dimensions
204 x 128 x 42mm
Recommended PSU
300W
- It supports two monitors
- Very lower power consumption
- Should work well with 144Hz monitor
- Low VRAM is not good for demanding games
Power on a budget!
Though you don’t get the RTX and DLSS features, this card can still handle a lot of AAA games at 1080p on medium settings.
The GTX 1660 is a card that was once cock of the walk but now lies largely forgotten beneath the weight and power of the two generations of GPUs that came after it. Part of this does make sense, each generation represents a major step forward in the technology GPUs use meaning that the GTX 1660 is not capable of raytracing for example. However, it is more than capable of handling Fortnite and is in fact the GPU on which many players will have been introduced to the game.

It averages just below 100 fps while on epic settings, which though not the highest level possible, is still more than enough for the average gamer. 100 fps is enough to offer a smooth playing experience and, if you want to knuckle down and really try and win the game, you can turn it to low settings. Here the GTX 1660 shoots up to over 300 fps, likely far more than you will be able to see on your monitor anyway. This will allow you to react and respond faster to enemies in your environment, giving you an edge over anyone playing on a lower fps.
You can get all this at a price of under $250 making it far more affordable than the sky-high prices of the RX 7900 XTX and RTX 4090, while still being able to play the game on its epic setting at a high frame rate.
What GPU can run Fortnite at 240fps?
While it is a tall order, there are loads of GPUs that can run Fortnite at 240fps. For example, anything from NVIDIA’s RTX 3000 or 4000 range will be able to do it. As well as the latest releases from AMD. Many of these will even be able to run at 240fps while on the highest of settings.
Do you need 240 FPS for Fortnite?
No – Fortnite will be enjoyable and playable at frame rates much lower than 240fps. For example no console ever released by Xbox or PlayStation is capable of gaming at 240fps, so you don’t need to worry. That said a frame rate that high will give you a competitive advantage, as you will be able to respond and react quickly to enemies.
What are the minimum system requirements for Fortnite?
Not to be confused with recommended requirements, the minimum system requirements are as follows:
- Video Card: Intel HD 4000 on PC: AMD Radeon Vega 8.
- Processor: Core i3-3225 3.3 GHz.
- Memory: 8 GB RAM.
- OS: Windows 7/8/10/11 64-bit or Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6.
What graphics card should I get to play Fornite at 4K 60 FPS?
If you want to play Fortnite at 4K 60 FPS, you should opt for a minimum of RTX 3060 Ti graphics card.
