We’re taking a look at the RTX 4060 Ti vs RX 6700 XT to see how they shape up against each other.
The RTX 4060 Ti has been released, well the 8GB version at least. Nvidia has also announced a 16GB 4060 Ti model, though that doesn’t won’t be arriving till some time in July. AMD’s RX 6700 XT meanwhile was released back in 2021 and has earned a strong reputation as a great value graphics card for 1080p graming.
What with the 4060 Ti’s release, we’re expecting to see price drops across the board for previous gen graphics cards, potentially making your final decision a little harder to make. With so much to discuss, let’s get to it. We’re going to compare the specs, performance and price of the 4060 Ti and RX 6700 XT.
RTX 4060 Ti vs RX 6700 XT – specs comparison
RTX 4060 Ti specs | RX 6700 XT | |
Architecture | Ada Lovelace | RDNA 2 |
CUDA Cores | 4,352 | 3,584 |
Base Clock (MHz) | 2,310 | 2,424 |
Boost Clock (MHz) | 2,535 | 2,581 |
Memory | 8/16GB GDDR6X | 12GB GDDR6 |
Memory Bus | 128-bit | 192-bit |
Memory Bandwidth | 288 GB/s | 384.0 GB/s |
TDP | 160/165W | 230W |
Straight off the bat, if you’re looking for the best GPU for 1440p and value your VRAM, the RX 6700 XT probably comes out on top compared to the 8GB RTX 4060 Ti. This year seems to have been the year of intense VRAM discussion, with gamers legitimately asking whether 8GB is enough for PC gaming. Though Nvidia’s announcement of the 16GB certainly comes as good news, AMD’s 6700 XT certainly offers good bang for buck in 2023.
On paper at least, both graphics cards appear neck and neck when it comes to clock speeds, both hovering at around 2,500MHz boost clock. Meanwhile, the 6700 XT has a considerably higher TDP of 230W which is what we’ve come to expect with older graphics cards. So, while the 4060 Ti might cost slightly more at launch, it looks like it could be cheaper to run which is definitely something to consider in the long term.
RTX 4060 Ti vs RX 6700 XT – architecture
The 4060 Ti definitely pulls ahead here on account of its super powerful Ada Lovelace architecture, outperforming AMD’s RDNA 2.
With Ada, the 4060 Ti enjoys third generation ray tracing and fourth generation tensor cores. This plays a role in Nvidia’s highly successful DLSS 3.0 software that uses AI deep leaning algorithms to boost the GPUs performance and efficiency, minimising the involvement of the CPU. In other words, you get more power from the hardware.

RDNA 2 meanwhile is still pretty good, and the 6700 XT copes well with 1080p and 1440p gaming. However, for those who want the best GPU for ray tracing, the 4060 Ti delivers the stronger performance.
If you’d like to stick to AMD, you can also check out AMD’s RX 7000 GPUs, including the rumoured RX 7600 XT which could launch in May.
RTX 4060 Ti vs RX 6700 XT – performance
We’ve taken a look at how these graphics cards perform on paper, but how might they perform in gaming scenarios? Simply put, the 6700 XT hasn’t quite made the cut for the best 1080p GPU, but it’s definitely up there. Meanwhile, judging by the specs and it’s fair to say that the 4060 Ti will be a powerful graphics card. When DLSS 3 is not enabled the two cards have very similar performances overall. however, turn the Lovelace technology on and its performance spikes.
The 16GB RTX 4060 Ti should also be decent for 4K, so that’s another point for Nvidia. Of course though, if you have no plans to game in 4K, then this won’t make much of a difference. The RX 6700 XT only has marginally less VRAM, and offers great value in 1080p and 1440p resolution.
RTX 4060 Ti vs RX 6700 XT – price
The RTX 4060 Ti is the first 40-series card to cost less than $500. This is sure to make it a popular card. Compared to the VRAM fiasco of the RTX 4080 and eye-watering price of Nvidia’s most powerful graphics card in the world, the RTX 4090, the 4060 Ti could be the graphics card we’ve all been waiting for.

Final word
Overall the RTX 4060 Ti is the more powerful graphics card, though only when you factor in DLSS 3. In incompatible games, the RX 6700 keeps up and sometimes even outperforms its Nvidia counterpart.
However, from specs alone, we’d say the 4060 Ti offers an excellent price to performance ratio on everything apart from its 8GB VRAM. Luckily Nvidia is releasing the 16GB slightly later in July, hopefully making the 4060 Ti great for 1440p.
That being said, the discounted price on the RX 6700 XT is pretty decent, and given its solid reviews since its release, is perhaps an easier choice than diving right in for the 4060 Ti.
