For anyone wondering what the performance and power are like on the RTX 4060 Ti, don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place.

After the exciting news that we’re getting three new mid-range GPUs for team green, we’re not surprised that people want to know more. The bitesize version is this: the RTX 4060 Ti comes in two variants, the 8GB or 16GB. The 8GB RTX 4060 Ti will release on May 24th. The 16GB will release along with the RTX 4060 on an unspecified release date in July. But how powerful will the GPUs be?

Is the RTX 4060 Ti performance good?

CUDA Cores

Let’s have a look at the CUDA cores first. CUDA cores are the heart and soul of a GPU. They render all the images and determine what sort of resolution you’re going to be playing at. As AAA games get more and more demanding with graphics, this is only becoming more important. Both versions of the RTX 4060 Ti will have 4,352 CUDA cores. This is a respectable amount and around what we’d expect from a mid-range graphics card. However, it is slightly lower than we were expecting. For reference, the RTX 4070 Ti had 7680 cores, while the vanilla 4070 had 5,888. So there’s been a fair jump here.

That being said, the inclusion of DLSS 3 is important to mention here. DLSS stands for Deep Learning Super Sampling. DLSS 3 is an AI-powered technology that allows the GPU to take images rendered to a low resolution and use AI to render them to higher resolutions without the frame rate suffering. This is a flagship piece of software for the 4000 series. With DLSS 3 in the 4060 Ti you’re far more likely to get steady frame rates at high resolutions, even with a lower CUDA core count.

The RTX 4060 Ti has two versions. The first is the 8GB version that releases in May. You may be wondering, is 8GB of VRAM good enough for gaming? It’s quite a nuanced question but what it comes down to is what are you trying to use the GPU for? Essentially, we expect the 8GB 4060 Ti to be a very good GPU with a particular strength at 1440p or 1080p with high frame rates and excellent at AAA games on medium settings. Basically, we expect it to be a very good mid-range graphics card.

Of course, the 16GB version is going to be more powerful. If you’re looking to play big-name games on high settings like Hogwarts Legacy or Dead Island 2 then you’re probably going to want that larger VRAM. At the end of the day, as you would expect, the 16GB version is more powerful, but both will be good. It will come down to a case by case judgement for each gamer which one suits their needs better if you’re stuck deciding between the two.

TDP

TDP stands for Thermal Design Power. The RTX 4060 Ti (both versions) has a TDP of between 160W-165W. Meanwhile, the average gaming power for both is 140W. To be honest we were surprised by the jump here. The RTX 4070 Ti clocked in with a whopping 285W TDP and 226W average gaming power. Understandably, though, there’s a jump from on version to the next, particularly as we leave the high-range end of the 4000 series and get into the more mid-range options.

Also worth knowing is that the RTX 4060 Ti has a maximum GPU temperature in (in Celsius) of 90. This is good to know for those of you who are looking to pre order or are already trying to find where to buy, and what to know what sort of cooling solutions you’re going to need to think about with this GPU.

Both versions of the RTX 4060 Ti look to be very powerful GPUs and excellent additions to the mid-range GPU cast. For the price team green is offering, both 4060 Ti versions seem to be excellent value for money to get your hands on that Ada Lovelace architecture, and DLSS 3, without having to pay the eye-watering sums we’ve been seeing with some of the higher-range options.
