For those interested in the RTX 4070 and are wondering if the specs are allowing 4K native gaming capability, you’ve come to the right place.

Since the introduction of 4K monitors way, way back in 2013, 4K has gradually taken over gaming. Most big-name games, like Cyberpunk 2077 and Resident Evil 4, these days support 4K. Even some VR headsets are getting close. With that in mind, it’s no wonder people are wondering if the RTX 4070 will support 4K.

Let’s get into it.

Is the RTX 4070 good for 4K gaming?

Nvidia have placed Ada Lovelace architecture at the centre of the 40 series. Lovelace architecture includes Fourth-Generation Tensor Cores which enable DLSS and DLSS 3. DLSS (or Deep Learning Super Sampling) allow for AI rendering up of lower resolution upscaled to higher resolutions while doing no damage to the frame rate. The inclusion of DLSS enhancement as a core basis for the 40 series made us very, very hopeful that the RTX 4070 would not prove to be a strange outlier in this department.

Furthermore, a little while ago we had a look at how the specs for a RTX 4070 were shaping up. We then compared those against the existing specs of the RTX 4070 Ti, which would be the closest model to a 4070 from the 40 series. In fact, things were looking so tight in that comparison that we held off on making a judgement on which was better until we knew more.

The good news: the Nvidia official specs list puts the 4070 Ti at 4k at 240 Hz. However, muddying the water, in the early days of the release the reviews are coming in and some gamers seem to find the RTX 4070 VRAM too little for efficient 4K gaming.

Our Answer

The 4070 can do gaming at 4K, but it’s not the best for it and we would say is more natively suited to gaming at 1440 x 1080.
