If you are wondering if Discord is accessible on PS4, look no further, we’ve got all the answers.

It’s pretty much impossible to game in 2023 without having heard of Discord. Discord is a free app that connects gamers worldwide and allows people to text and voice chat to each other for free. Discord is mainly split into two key methods of interaction. The first are the large open servers for massive topics like popular games such as Minecraft. The second is small invite-only servers for private groups to chat. Anyone can start a server and invite their friends to join.

Once in the server, users can use either the voice channel or text channel to communicate with each other. The voice channel allows both audio and video call and users can even share their screen. The text channels act much like major social media apps like Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger. It allows users to post messages, share pictures and gifs, and upload files.

The chat software recently saw it make its way to the PS5 – so you’d be right in thinking about if its younger sibling can also access it. With over 100 million users worldwide, it’s easy to see why people are wondering if they can access Discord on PS4.

To audio chat using Discord on PS4:

This one requires a bit of extra hardware. According to PC Guide’s experts you’ll need to get a MixAmp and a ground loop filter noise isolator.

MixAmp is a device connected to your audio port that allows you to mix together PC sound, console and game audio. For this reason it’s a very popular bit of kit amongst streamers. Unfortunately, it’s quite expensive with the Astro Gaming MixAmp clocking in at just over £100 on Amazon.

Note: MixAmp requires the use of cable to connect, so if you’re a diehard wireless gamer, this hack won’t work for you.

A ground loop filter noise isolator is small device plugged into your audio port that removes all the irritating background noises. Think of all the hisses, statics and hums you get when too many parts of your entertainment system are plugged into the same power source. That’s what a ground loop filter noise isolator gets rid of.

Once you’ve got your MixAmp and your ground loop filter noise isolator, you’re ready to connect your PS4 to audio chat on Discord.

  1. Switch to console mode and switch on your MixAmp.
  2. Plug your ground loop filter noise isolator into the device aux port.
  3. Plug the aux cable into the ground loop filter noise isolator.
  4. Grab your USB cable and connect it to your PS4.
  5. Making sure you’re using a 3.5mm cable, connect your headset to your MixAmp.
  6. Switch on the PS4.
  7. Select Settings > Devices > Audio Devices > Input Device.
  8. Select your headset.
  9. Find Output Device and select TV or AV Amplifier.
  10. Return to Settings.
  11. Select Sound and Screen > Audio Output Settings > Primary Output.
  12. Set to Digital Out (Optical).

You’re all done!

The good news is that Discord has just released an update that allows Discord voice chat on PS5. This update will allow used to chat and play multiplayer games no matter what device they are playing on as long as it is supported by Discord. This includes PC, mobile, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles. While for now this remains a PS5 only feature it’s an exciting step in the Discord/PlayStation partnership.
