In a media briefing (via VGC) Microsoft said that Xbox is “on track” to release at least five first-party games in 2023.

The company noted that it released five games during the last fiscal year. These games were Microsoft Flight Simulator, Psychonauts 2, Age of Empires IV, Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite. (It is worth noting that these are not all Xbox-exclusive games; Age of Empires IV was only available on PC, and Psychonauts 2 was also out on PlayStation 4.)

Then, the company said: “We are on track to meet or exceed that amount in the next fiscal.”

Still, this is good news, and Microsoft doubtless said it in order to drum up excitement, in the wake of its recent delays. Starfield and Redfall were both pushed back to 2023, meaning Xbox has no big exclusive games this year.

It is also unclear whether these will include games such as Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo. These titles would be new to Xbox platforms, but they launched exclusively on PlayStation.

Either way, that still means that three new first-party games will be out before June 30th, 2023. And Microsoft has a number of games that are already announced but that don’t have release dates. We could be seeing the likes of Avowed, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, or State of Decay 3 before long.
