Wii U sales during its first full year in the UK were so poor that the system failed to beat Sony’s struggling PS Vita, Chart-Track data shown to Eurogamer has revealed.

PS Vita sales actually fell by 41.5 per cent in 2013 over the previous year.

3DS systems were the best-selling, with 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS units combing to outpace the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 sold the most units of all the home consoles in 2013, even more than the PS4 which charted third, contrary to an earlier online report.

PS3 charted fourth, followed by Xbox One, PS Vita and Wii U and Wii.

Video game hardware sales were up five percent in units and 28 per cent in revenue on 2012, thanks to the launch of PS4 and Xbox One – the two new consoles shifted around one third of all hardware sold in 2013.
