Activision, Infinity Ward and Respawn have announced that popular game mode Plunder will be making its return in Warzone 2 and MW2 this evening.

The mode was teased as coming partway through Season 3 a few weeks ago – and while many had assumed it’d be coming as part of the regular Season 3 Reloaded update, instead it seems as though the mode will arrive as a self-contained playlist update this evening, April 26.

For those not familiar, Plunder mode is a squad-versus-squad mode, where the aim is to accrue as much money as possible, with cold hard cash available in supply boxes, found around the map or of course from killing other players and completing contracts. You’ll get more cash if you take someone down holding a lot of cash, so it benefits you to work together with your squad to try and take down those with the deepest pockets.

A key difference from normal play is that squads are able to respawn once they’re killed – however, every time they do it costs them more and more money to do so – players are also able to use their loadouts in Plunder matches, which means it’s a good place to really tune up your favourite weapon and kit combos to find your ideal setup.

Plunder was a very popular mode in the original Warzone, and its return this time around is being met with celebration from the community. “Finally, something good!” says marco_maya on the Warzone Reddit. However, some players are withholding their celebrations just yet, as they’ve concerns about how the mode will translate with Warzone 2’s movement speed. “I used to be a Plunder enthusiast,” says ItsMeVikinginTX – “but with slower movement and DMZ, I’m not sure I see the point anymore.”

We’ll find out when Plunder arrives in Warzone 2 this evening, April 26. Season 3 of MW2 and Warzone 2 has seen a lot of new game modes added – including the return of Gunfight.
