MW2 players have long been asking Infinity Ward to bring back the classic Gunfight mode and it seems that their wish is finally being granted. With the latest installment’s third season set to arrive in a few weeks, the developers have now announced that the popular 2v2 match type will be returning as part of it.

First introduced in the original 2019 Modern Warfare installment, this exciting game mode has since gone on to gain a devoted following as evidenced by the large number of fans asking for its reintroduction. It was also included in both Call of Duty: Mobile and Black Ops Cold War, which only added to its popularity within the community.

For those unfamiliar, Gunfight presents a drastically different scenario to the usual match offerings present within multiplayer. Instead of the typical 6v6 or the more recent 10v10 types, this game mode features a fast-paced 2v2 structure where the main goal will obviously be to eliminate the enemy team.

However, there will also be a 40-second time limit that both teams will need to make use of wisely to get rid of the opposition. Once time runs out, an overtime flag will spawn for 10 seconds at the middle of the map, which players can then capture to win the round. If the overtime flag timer runs out, though, then the round will go to the team with the most health left.

With this beloved game mode’s reintroduction, players that previously became jaded with MW2 should have more incentive to come back to the game now. Hopefully, this will spur Infinity Ward to bring back more favored features from previous CoD installments.
