It has been a long time since we’ve been treated to a new mainline game in the Mana series, and we finally have a release date locked in for Visions of Mana. Initially revealed during the Game Awards, we’ve all had to wait patiently for news about the Visions of Mana release date, but it is now closer than ever as we approach August.
When will Visions of Mana be released?
Visions of Mana will be released on Thursday, August 29 2024. It will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC when it launches. After being revealed a few years ago, we have been waiting for a release date confirmation for a while. Square Enix finally confirmed the release date when it dropped a new trailer for the game, sharing new gameplay, a look at the characters, and the launch date. The last mainline game in the Mana series was released in 2006, so the series is getting a rather significant glow-up with Visions of Mana.
Visions of Mana gameplay details
Visions of Mana is an action RPG, set in a fantasy world. The game focuses on Val and his friend Hinna, who has just become the Alm of Fire. Together they set off on a journey to the Mana Tree, which, lucky for us, will be an adventure of epic proportions complete with exploring a beautiful world and taking part in action-focused combat.
As per the game’s listing on Steam, Visions of Mana will feature a “vibrant and vast semi-open field”, and you can rest assured that these areas will be filled with adorable and fierce monsters the series is synonymous with. In battle, you will control a party of characters and switch between them, using the power of the Elementals to tackle obstacles. The weapons you use will have different elemental powers, and you can change your class and characters to suit the situation you find yourself in.
Visions of Mana trailers
So far, we’ve seen a handful of trailers for Visions of Mana. The game was first revealed in 2023 with an announcement trailer during the Game Awards. This trailer gave us a look at one of the main characters Val and Hinna, and some areas we will explore. Combat was featured, showing off magical abilities and melee attacks, along with some exploration. Similar to Dragon Quest, the Mana games are always full of charm and whimsy.
Since then, we got another trailer in January 2024 during the Xbox Direct Stream. This stream confirmed the combat would be action-focused instead of being turn-based, giving us a glimpse at some bosses and the Elementals we’ll use. This was a long gameplay trailer, showing off plenty of fun things to do, especially the exploration.
In March 2024, we got another Visions of Mana trailer that showcased new party members and how they perform in combat, as well as mounting the Pikuls to help you get around the map. This trailer showed a lot of combat abilities as well as how changing characters during a fight works. It appears that some bosses, like the giant mantis, has a weak point you can exploit during the fight, as well as being able to inflict them with status ailments like freeze.
Finally, the launch announcement trailer for Visions of Mana was released on June 12, 2024. This trailer showed us plenty more of what we’ve already seen but gave us a better look at the colourful cast of characters we’ll meet. At the end of the trailer, Square Enix revealed the Visions of Mana release date, locking it in for August 29, 2024.
