In a year full of great games the indie scene has not disappointed. While games like Amnesia: The Bunker have provided fantastic horror experiences for players, the FEAR-inspired FPS game, Trepang2 is taking Steam by storm.

Since launching on June 21, 2023, the game has received praise from every corner of the internet and the “gory, action-packed FPS” now has an Overwhelmingly Positive review rating on Steam, with 95% of just under 2,000 reviews loving the game. One player described the game as an “underrated gem” in their review on Steam saying, the game “needs more exposure to flip the FPS industry and bring in a revolution of sorts.” Another player noted Trepang2’s FEAR inspiration saying, “Trepang2 takes what FEAR started, and moves it forward to the next logical step.”

The game has become so popular with indie shooter fans that New Blood, developers of games like DUSK, Ultrakill and Gloomwood, even teamed up with the Team 17 published game to create the Ultrapang bundle for Steam’s Summer Sale. The bundle includes a copy of both Trepang2 and Ultrakill. While the game is currently only available on PC, it’s set to make its way to both Xbox and PlayStation in the future.

Our Trepang2 review described the game as “a game that took inspiration from the ultra-violent, action-fuelled, stealth-packed forebearers of the genre, and told its own story. A tight narrative that snakes and twists in the best ways possible, perfect pacing, and immensely satisfying gunplay that gives you a true sense of super soldier status all work synergistically to create a deeply fulfilling and fun experience.”
