Netflix has announced the launch date for the third season of The Witcher, with the latest season to be split into two volumes this summer.

This latest season will be the last to feature Henry Cavill as lead character Geralt, and will also feature the return of Freya Allan as Ciri and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer. Like a few of Netflix’s shows of late, the new season will be split over two volumes – with the first set to arrive on June 29 and will conclude with Volume Two on July 27.

There’s a trailer of course – which teases the darkness in store for everyone’s favourite Witcher and the fight the three characters will face. You can check that out for yourself down below.

An earlier synopsis for the new season, revealed back in April, let fans into the story. “As monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.”

“Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protect fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers. Instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

From Season 4, the role of Geralt will be taken over by The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth after Cavill himself announced he was stepping down from the role last October. “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures,” he wrote on his Instagram. “And alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4.”

“In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men”

In the meantime, The Witcher Season 3 will be available to stream on Netflix with Volume One arriving from June 29, 2023 – followed by Volume 2 on July 27, 2023.
