The Witcher 3 next gen update features

Improved Visuals

It’s the obvious one, but of course this’ll be the best looking version of the game yet on console – taking full advantage of the increased horsepower of the new consoles.

There’ll be Ray Tracing, improved foilage, better textures and more. There’ll also be improved Screen Space Reflections and full FSR 2.1 and DLSS 3 support.

Camera, Controls and UI improvements

In addition to the graphical upgrades, there’ll also be more ways to look at them, thanks to a brand new alternative camera option. On top of this, you can expect quality of life changes including map filtering, the option to dynamically hide the minimap and there’s an alternative Quick Sign Casting option.

Photo Mode

All of this means you’ll of course want to show the new visuals off to your friends – and you’ll be able to thanks to the new dedicated photo mode. There’s plenty of options, filters and more – so you’ll be getting Geralt and Roach into the perfect pose in no time.

Integrated Mods and Quest Fixes

Some of the most popular community made mods will become official additions in the next -gen patch, and some long-standing issues are also finally getting addressed with some much needed fixes.

Netflix DLC

Of course, in the time since the original game’s release – there’s been a pretty successful Netflix show. Getting a nod to the show in the game was a no-brainer for CDPR – so we’re getting it in this update.

The DLC will include alternative looks for Dandelion and the Nilfgaardian soldiers – and a brand new quest inspired by the show that’ll net you some diagrams for new stuff for Geralt once you complete it.

Cross-progression

It’s no secret that The Witcher 3 is a large game, so you might want to take your progress with you across consoles. Now you can, and you’ll be able to continue your quest regardless of if you’re playing on PlayStation, Xbox or PC.

You can check out a trailer for the Witcher 3 Next Gen update below. The patch arrives for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on December 14, 2022. (And it’s a free upgrade if you already own the game on those systems.)
