New rumours on a potential Gears of War remastered collection have been circling over the weekend.

They come once more from Nick Baker, who started the original whispers back in January. As spotted by Video Games Chronicle, Baker was back on his Xbox Era podcast. He referred back to his original statement of “another franchise getting the Master Chief treatment”. Then, he further added “I am of the belief that that is coming this year.”

While he stopped short of saying Gears by name, he did say “everyone’s guessed it” when referring to the series. To further lock it in, he noted that “if you go from November 2021 to November 2022 and you look at Microsoft’s big output, it could wind up being Halo, Gears, Forza…” – if you take Forza Horizon 5′s release in November, and Halo Infinite‘s launch in December, it would indeed imply from Baker’s comments we’re due a Gears announcement next.

There’s still been no confirmation from Xbox or indeed Gears series studio The Coalition yet. However, Baker makes the relatively safe bet that if an announcement is coming, it’ll likely be at next month’s Xbox and Bethesda showcase on June 12. Video Games Chronicle also note from its own sources that the studio is in the “early stages” of the next Gears title. Whether that’s Gears 6 or a spinoff isn’t clear, however.

Gears of War has previously had a remastered version of the very first title in the series with Gears of War Ultimate Edition back in 2015. Could Gears of War 2 and 3 be looking at a similar tuck and lift? There’s certainly a big space in the Xbox-exclusive release calendar, following the delays of Starfield and Redfall last week.
