Rumours are circulating that Gears of War could be next in-line to get a package similar to Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

That’s according to Nick Baker speaking on the Xbox Era podcast. As spotted by GamesRadar, Baker claimed he’d been told “another Microsoft franchise will be getting the Master Chief Collection treatment”. Specifically, a collection of several games in the same series remastered and collected into one bundle.

Baker did not give a timeframe for the collection’s ETA outside of the next two years. He was also unable to say specifically which series. However, Senior Editor for The Verge Tom Warren later responded to a tweet of this rumour adding some major fuel. Specifically, he said “the gears are really turning on this rumour” – an obvious nod to the Gears series.

Gears currently has five main games and two spin-0ffs to its name in Gears of War: Judgment and Gears Tactics. There doesn’t seem to be word whether these spin-offs would also make the package. There’s also speculation that the rumoured package could be a Fable collection instead, which could set up the next game in development at Playground nicely.

There’s been no confirmation from Xbox or current Gears caretakers The Coalition on this rumour at the time of writing. The latter previously gave the original Gears of War a spruce-up in the Gears of War Ultimate Edition back in 2015. It hasn’t, so far, offered a similar treatment to the other games in the series.  The last we heard from the studio was a showcase of Unreal Engine 5 tech in July. Around the same time, it was also rumoured they could be working on a new IP.
