The arrival of the M2016 ‘Constitution’ has taken the Helldivers 2 community by storm. A reproduction of an old WW1-era rifle, the bayonet-equipped centuries-old gun has become one of the most popular guns in the game.

Coming as a gift for Liberty Day, the Constitution rifle has quickly become a meme gun as squads of divers drop in to battle bugs with only their slow-firing rifle at their side. With fans bolting through maps with the gun, one fan discovered it’s also surprisingly effective against powerful Automaton tanks.

Helldivers 2 Tank v Constitution

While some players are currently being stunlocked by Tesla Towers, others have discovered the hidden power of the Constitution bayonet. Combined with the recently-buffed jump pack, players have discovered that you can boost on top of Automaton tanks and quickly stab their weak spot to take them out.

By using the rifle’s bayonet, Helldivers 2 players can take out the tank with just a few short stabs. One video shared by the game’s community has shown that tanks can go down in just four hits to the tank’s weak spot, but there are consequences.

As the video shows, taking out a tank with the Constitution rifle does result in players being blasted far away from the area. One player who took out the vehicle was quickly fired miles away from the objective, straight into the water. It’s not known if the soldier made their way back to land.

So, if you’re looking to take out a tank with your trusty, old-fashioned rifle, take care. You may end up giving your life for Super Earth which, to be honest, is to be expected at this point.

More meme weapons?

At the time of writing, the Helldivers 2 M2016 Constitution is one of the first “meme weapons” to be added to Arrowhead’s shooter. However, fans are hungry for more, including more melee weapons that, while not as effective as a Laser Cannon, would allow for a brand-new era of roleplaying.

Hopefully, as time goes on, more fun weapons will be added to the game. After the game fixed tonnes of fan complaints by addressing its crushing difficulty, the game is finally in the right place to make more fun weapons as time foes on.
