The recent Helldivers 2 01.000.400 update was a huge hit with players as it introduced many new cosmetic styles for the first time including Titles and much more. One of the highlights was the inclusion of the Throwing Knives Stratagem. So far, players have been enjoying them, but they also leave an obvious question that needs to be asked, when is Melee coming to Helldivers 2?
U/Will-O-Weeb took to Reddit to discuss the new Throwing Knife items in the Viper Commandos Warbond. With them now being in the game, and quite popular too, many are wondering when we will see regular melee weapons added.
“I wasn’t expecting much of the knife to be honest. I had already heard how ineffective it was compared to other options, but hey it looks rad so why not? I take it out and a hunter hops next to me. Hunter meets knife, I try to melee it, and nothing. Nada. No spay of blood (except mine). Sweet Liberty, is it too much to ask for my melee weapon can be used in melee? Helldivers should be able to stab democracy into the heart of the enemy face to face if they so wish to.”
Currently, there are no melee weapons in Helldivers 2 but there is a melee button, not that it’s worth using. When pressed, you will hit the enemy with the butt of your gun, but it doesn’t deal much damage and can take three or four hits to take out one of the grunt-type Automaton enemies. The only use it has is to give you a moment to be able to switch to your secondary if you’re in a pinch. But, with the inclusion of the Throwing Knife, and if it was turned into a regular melee weapon, it would deal more damage and could be a viable secondary weapon to carry.
There are a lot of directions that Arrowhead Game Studios could go with melee weapons, from more traditional types such as the knives or bats. They could also add some more fun and light-hearted weapons that are themed around the Warbond.
