Epic Games has announced that The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 experience will be revealed at this year’s Game Awards.
It sounds like it’s going to be some sort of Unreal Engine tech demo, but with a few surprise twists. We’re told the series’ director Lana Wachowski has worked on it, and it’s confirmed to feature actors Keanu Reeves and Carrie Ann-Moss. The blurb calls it “A wild ride into the reality-bending universe of The Matrix”.
The project was first uncovered last week, following the discovery of the artwork found on the PlayStation Store. You can pre-download it now for both PlayStation 5 and for the Xbox Series X|S consoles, and it’ll go live during The Game Awards on December 9. You can find out more on The Matrix Awakens‘ official website.
In case you need a quick refresher, The Game Awards this year will be live and in person from LA. It’ll be the first gathering in a couple of years, given the global pandemic forced last year’s event online. Some of the games with several nominations this year include Psychonauts 2, Deathloop and It Takes Two.
Aside from the gongs, there’s also set to be a bunch of reveals too. It’s a late one for UK folk though, with a 12:30am start time. We’ll keep our noses to the ground and let you know the big stories from there the next morning.
