Geoff Keighley has announced that The Game Awards will return as an in-person event for 2021 this December.

The annual ceremony will return to a full-scale show for the first time in a year, with last year’s event held exclusively online due to the ongoing global pandemic. Proceedings will take place at the Microsoft Theatre in LA, bringing together some of the biggest names in gaming.

While ostensibly an awards show, the event is often stuffed with new game announcements, appearances and performances. We can also look forward to a live musical performance by The Game Awards Orchestra, conducted by Lorne Balfe.

Geoff’s provided a quote for the announcement, of course. “We are very excited to return to the Microsoft Theater for a special night to celebrate the past, present and future of video games. Our goal is to bring the entire community together to celebrate the most powerful form of entertainment in the world, and recognize emerging voices that represent the future of the medium.”

Last year’s edition included reveals of Perfect Dark and The Callisto Protocol. Bioware also made a prominent showing with the as-yet-untitled Mass Effect sequel and an early peek at Dragon Age 4. What we’ll see this year is anyone’s guess, but we’ll keep you in the loop of the biggest announcements.

The Game Awards 2021 will emanate from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on December 9, 2021.
