Nintendo has announced development on a live-action action film adaptation of their ever-popular adventure franchise, The Legend of Zelda. According to the publisher’s statement, the film will be produced by Representative Director Shigeru Miyamoto and Chairman of Arad Productions Inc., Avi Arad. Wes Ball, who has helmed The Maze Runner film trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, has been tapped to direct the upcoming project.

With the adaptation having only recently been announced, no release date has been provided yet at the time of writing. However, based on a post from Shigeru Miyamoto himself, the Nintendo executive has revealed that work on the live-action adaptation has been ongoing “for many years now with [Arad Productions Chairman] Avi Arad-san.” With this in mind, the movie’s launch may be occurring sooner rather than later, as it seems that the project is well past its conception phase already.

Of course, specific details on the film, such as its plot and cast, remain scarce, so it may not be a while until we get a sneak peek, let alone an actual trailer. Nevertheless, we do expect to learn more the farther we get into the upcoming calendar year, so stay tuned because we will be providing you with updates as soon as more information has surfaced.

Following the critical and financial success of several video game adaptations, including HBO’s The Last of US TV show, Universal Pictures’ The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Peacock’s Twisted Metal series, many within the gaming community had called on Nintendo to create a film adaptation for one of their most popular IPs. Now that Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad have confirmed their production of the long-awaited movie, all fans will need to do now is remain patient until more details surface.
