Exciting times are abound for fans of Naughty Dog’s popular post-apocalyptic title as HBO’s The Last of Us TV series has now been renewed for a second season.

According to an official post, the developers themselves confirmed the follow-up to the wildly successful opening season. Unfortunately, no specific release date has been given out yet, but with a handful of episodes still left, the show runners most likely won’t reveal anything until the latter part of Season 1.

Renewing HBO’s The Last of Us TV series isn’t at all surprising considering the millions of views and the critical acclaim that it has received so far. Both critics and casual viewers have praised Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin in particular for their ability to stay true to the original story while adding in new elements that make the show even more intriguing.

The performances of the entire cast have been wholly amazing as well, with Bella Ramsey, Pedro Pascal, and Anna Torv all standing out in their roles as Ellie, Joel, and Tess respectively. The upcoming third episode is set to be even more of a banger as Bill and Frank are finally going to be introduced with the former being played by none other than the brilliant Nick Offerman while the equally talented Murray Bartlett stars as the latter.

The announcement of the latest season now fuels the ongoing fan speculation of Shannon Berry being cast as Abby even more. However, these theories still have to be taken with a grain of salt as nothing has been confirmed yet at the time of writing.

With Naughty Dog finally confirming the arrival of the show’s sophomore season, viewers should now prepare themselves for the heartbreak that’s sure to come.
