Following The Last of Us TV show’s opening season success, producers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are full steam ahead with Season 2’s development after casting Booksmart actress Kaitlyn Dever as the golf club-wielding Abigail “Abby” Anderson. However, some fans aren’t entirely convinced by the showrunners’ decision to cast Dever, as most fans believe she lacks the muscular physique needed to accurately portray the controversial antagonist.

Of course, despite the show’s immediate renewal in June 2023, Dever’s recent casting indicates that development on Season 2 is yet to get underway, as the joint WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike had only concluded towards the latter part of last year. Luckily, this means that, barring any drastic creative shifts, there should still be plenty of time for Dever to get into shape, especially with fans calling out her inaccurate appearance on social media.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), one fan said: “She’s a great actress, but I feel like she’s gonna have to bulk up a [lot] unless [the] TV version isn’t gonna [have her] be muscular like that.” On the other hand, another commenter called out her height: “She’s [5’2″]. I literally have no idea how they want to make it work.”

For those unfamiliar with the controversy that previously surrounded the sequel, the game’s community is particularly picky with Abby’s actress because her muscle-bound appearance made her both memorable and controversial. Upon her divisive appearance in the game, many within the fan base immediately criticized Naughty Dog for her muscular build, with some calling it “unrealistic in the context of a zombie apocalypse.”

Now, only time will tell if the showrunners decide to stay true to the sequel by having Kaitlyn Dever bulk up to the extent that Abby did in the game.
