It’s been anticipated for a couple of weeks, but patch 2.6.0 is now out for The Finals. It’s a great update for adding the new Terminal Attack mode along with changes to Ranked tournaments and improvements to anti-cheat security. However, some of the The Finals community are not happy with huge nerfs to the stun gun.

You can check out the The Finals update 2.6.0 patch notes to see all of the changes in full. Away from this update, the developer has shown a huge glow up for the goth girl skin everyone is anticipating, and they have also teased a new map for Season 3 which is set to start in just over a month.

While goth skins and the arrival of Season 3 are exciting aspects to anticipate, right now we are all able to enjoy update 2.6.0. This update is massive for adding the new Terminal Attack mode, but many fans feel that it has made Light even weaker and more redundant than before.

The Finals fans frustrated with stun gun nerfs

The Finals update 2.6.0 has nerfed the stun gun. We knew this was happening as changes to the stun gun were previewed in the 2.5.0 patch notes in April. Below are the changes made to the Light class exclusive weapon:

  • Increased the Stun Gun projectile’s maximum travel distance from 12m to 16m
  • Players who are stunned can now use their Specializations and Gadgets while stunned
  • Players who are stunned can now aim down sights while stunned
  • Players who are stunned can now crouch

As for why the above changes were made, the developer has said ‘We felt that the Stun Gun was a little too dominant as a Gadget and led to many slow, inevitable deaths. The stun effect now mostly lowers the target’s movement speed, blocks them from jumping, mantling, or vaulting over obstacles, and interrupts interactions. This makes stunned players vulnerable but gives them a fighting chance’.

It’s easy to understand Embark’s rationale as many in the community previously complained that the stun gun was unfair to other players. However, it should now be less frustrating to Medium and Heavy players as it no longer results in instant death.

While Medium and Heavy players might be relieved with the changes, it’s fair to say that Light players are not pleased. Reacting to the stun gun nerfs on Reddit, one of the repeated complaints is that the Light class is already underperforming and has been nerfed even more without any buffs to compensate.

One of the comments says ‘Light is already by far the weakest class in the game and offers almost no utility for the team, now they take away his only viable gadget and nerf cloak again without giving any compensation buffs’. Complaints about Light being the weakest by far has resulted in some players exclaiming that Embark ‘can just delete the class at this point because it wont have any impact if ur not a completely cracked player’.

Some users are simply asking ‘What’s the point of the stun gun now,’ and some users are saying that Embark need to completely remake the Light class. One user claims ‘Every light nerf is huge changes, other classes get minor tweaks’.

Even users who do not use the Light class are divided over the implemented changes. One user said ‘stun gun is annoying as f**k but this is too much,’ meanwhile, another user replied ‘I was fine with just being able to ADS or crouch, but all these things combined kinda feel a bit excessive’.

Nerfs to the stun gun were always going to be divisive especially with fans arguing online before changes were even implemented. Embark were in a no-win situation with how some people hated the stun gun while others loved it, but here’s hoping improvements to the Light class are made in the future so it feels more equal to Medium and Heavy.
